Ethics & Boundaries in AI Use – Panel Discussion Summary
As part of the AI Conference, one of the most thought-provoking sessions titled “Ethics & Boundaries in AI Use” brought together a distinguished panel to explore the evolving challenges and responsibilities surrounding artificial intelligence.
The session was moderated by Mr. Ali Syedain, CEO of Civilization Public School, who guided the discussion with both insight and relatability. The panel featured four prominent voices:
Dr. Naveed Yousuf – CEO of the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) and Chair of Educational Development at Aga Khan University
Mr. Jawwad Fareed – Technologist, Entrepreneur, and Professor
Mr. Arbab Ali Khan – Founder of QuickPay
Ms. Munaza Siddiqui – Senior Journalist, Author, and Media Professional
The session opened by highlighting the global perception of AI as a mix of excitement and fear, emphasizing that AI is now a reality that must be approached responsibly. The panel discussed key concerns, including the potential decline in children’s creativity, storytelling, and critical thinking, as increasing reliance on AI may reduce independent thought and deep learning.
It was noted that AI can disrupt the natural learning process by replacing exploration and problem-solving with instant answers. Concerns around digital safety and bias were also raised, with AI often reflecting limited or non-diverse perspectives. Since global regulation remains unlikely, the responsibility largely falls on parents, educators, and society.
The discussion stressed the importance of communication, trust, and active guidance in helping children navigate AI. Supervised use, age-appropriate exposure, and a focus on developing judgment rather than dependence are essential.
The session concluded on a reassuring note: despite technological challenges, the solution lies in strengthening core human values—communication, trust, and meaningful family and social engagement.
