Curry leaves are a key ingredient in many South Asian dishes, adding a unique flavor and aroma. These leaves come from the curry leaf plant, scientifically known as Murraya koenigii. The plant is a tropical to subtropical tree that belongs to the citrus family. Curry leaves are dark green and shiny with a strong, distinct aroma.
In cooking, curry leaves are often used to flavor curries, stews, chutneys, and other dishes. They are usually added to hot oil at the beginning of cooking to release their flavor. Apart from culinary uses, curry leaves are also known for their potential health benefits, as they are a good source of antioxidants and have antimicrobial properties.
Growing curry leaf plants require warm, humid conditions and well-drained soil. They are commonly grown in regions like South Asia and are popular in Indian cuisine.
