H I S T O R Y :
It was observed, that the people coming from the interior of Sindh and Balochistan for Dermatological consultation were least aware of skin diseases, so that a treatable and easily manageable skin disease, like scabies or fungal infection, would continue for months and even years. Sometimes a disease like psoriasis, vitiligo or C.D.L.E was mistaken for leprosy, creating a social stigma and embarrassment for the patient and his family. It was also observed that due to the lack of knowledge about diagnosis and treatment of skin disease, the medical personnel mishandle the case and rather spoil it. It is also a fact, that the estimated numbers of Leprosy patients in Pakistan is 45,000 and only 34,500 are registered. The remaining patients are a continuous cause of spread and persistence of the disease .Once they are diagnosed and treatment started, they will become non-infectious
Keeping all these facts in mind, the doctors of the institute formed WADeP -with the slogan “ REACH THE UNREACHED”.
