Mr Altaf khoso CEO PLUS participate as a Guest Speaker at the seminar on World Su***de Prevention Day, organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi.

The seminar was graced by Dr. Zahid Hasan Ansari as Chief Guest, along with distinguished guest speakers and representatives from various government departments and institutions. The event brought together participants from academia, civil society, government institutions, human rights organizations, and the business community, creating an important platform for meaningful discussion and collective action.

During my remarks, I highlighted that su***de is a serious issue that affects not only individuals and families but society as a whole. There is an urgent need to raise awareness, reduce stigma, strengthen support systems, improve institutional coordination, and ensure that reliable and updated data is available to understand the scale and causes of the problem.

I also emphasized the importance of reviewing existing laws and strengthening relevant institutions so that prevention, early intervention, mental-health support and protection of human dignity can be addressed more effectively.

The FPCCI initiative to bring different sectors together is an important step toward creating greater awareness and encouraging a coordinated response. Government institutions, academia, civil society, healthcare professionals, businesses and communities all have a role to play in preventing su***de and supporting those who may be at risk.

Every life is valuable. Raising awareness, listening without stigma, strengthening institutions and taking timely action can help save lives.

Let us continue to speak openly, promote understanding and work together to protect life, dignity and humanity

یہ وقار کی فتح ہے! ⚖️💙
کراچی کے ناظم آباد میں رہنے والے ایک بہرے و گونگے شخص اسامہ جاوید کو کام کی جگہ پر روزانہ ذلت، گالی گلوچ اور مذاق کا سامنا تھا۔
لیکن انہوں نے خاموشی اختیار نہیں کی۔
پاکستان لیگل یونائیٹڈ سوسائٹی (PLUS) نے ان کے ساتھ کھڑے ہو کر عدالت میں درخواست دائر کی۔
اور 15 ستمبر 2026 کو عدالت نے واضح حکم صادر کیا کہ متعلقہ SHO فوری طور پر اسامہ کو تحفظ فراہم کرے اور کسی بھی قسم کی ہراسانی روکے۔
یہ فیصلہ ہمیں یاد دلاتا ہے:
معذور افراد کے حقوق صدقہ نہیں، آئینی اور اخلاقی فرض ہیں!
جب کمزور کا ساتھ دیا جائے تو انصاف زندہ رہتا ہے۔
جب ادارے آواز اٹھائیں اور عدالتیں سختی سے جواب دیں تو امید بحال ہوتی ہے۔

Three-Day Capacity Building Training of Lawyers on Disability Rights & Inclusive Justice

Pakistan Legal United Society (PLUS), in collaboration with the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, successfully organized a three-day Capacity Building Training of Lawyers from 10th to 12th September 2026 at the High Court of Sindh, Karachi.

The training focused on strengthening lawyers’ understanding and practical capacity regarding disability rights and inclusive justice. Distinguished master trainers and experts sensitized participating lawyers on the Sindh Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2018 and its Rules, UNCRPD, national and international perspectives on disability law, Qanun-e-Shahadat , criminal procedure code right to information and evidentiary issues, handling disability-related cases, reasonable accommodation, the role of interpreters, sign language and effective communication, and the mental health and well-being of lawyers.

The training also included the valuable participation of a representative of the Prosecution Department, Mr sajjad Mangi Assistant prosecutor general delivered a presentation on the importance of accessible evidence and effective support for persons with disabilities during court proceedings. The session also highlighted the assistive gadgets and technologies provided by PLUS to support persons with disabilities in accessing justice and presenting evidence before courts, including AI-enabled glasses, tablets, crutches, and other assistive devices. These initiatives demonstrate the importance of using technology and reasonable accommodation to make court proceedings more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities.

The sessions were delivered by distinguished resource persons, including:

The training also benefited from the valuable presence and guidance of Ms. Roopmala Singh Rajput, Additional Joint Secretary and Chairperson of the Education Committee, Sindh High Court Bar Association, along with the President, Secretary, and other members of the High Court Bar Association, whose cooperation played an important role in the successful organization of the programme.

The active participation of legal professionals, government representatives, disability-rights experts, human rights defenders, mental health professionals, and sign-language specialists made the three-day training a meaningful platform for knowledge-sharing, sensitization, and professional capacity building.

Through this initiative, PLUS continues its commitment to building a more accessible, inclusive and disability-responsive justice system, where persons with disabilities can meaningfully exercise their rights and access justice on an equal basis.

Justice is not truly accessible until it is accessible to everyone.

⚖️ Finalizing the Launch of PJN’s Insaf Markaz at PLUS Karachi Office

Pakistan Legal United Society (PLUS) is pleased to be part of the initiative to establish PJN’s Insaf Markaz – Community Human Rights Protection & Justice Centre, Sindh, at the PLUS Karachi Office.

This collaboration represents an important step towards strengthening community-based human rights protection, access to justice, climate justice, legal support and social inclusion, particularly for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The Insaf Markaz will provide a platform to support and facilitate communities including:

🔹 Children affected by abuse and violence
🔹 Women and survivors of rights violations
🔹 Transgender persons and marginalized communities
🔹 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
🔹 Vulnerable and disadvantaged communities
🔹 Communities affected by climate change and environmental challenges
🔹 People facing discrimination, exclusion or barriers to justice

Climate Justice & Access to Justice will also be important areas of focus, recognizing the need to ensure that vulnerable communities are not left behind in addressing climate-related risks, environmental challenges and their social and legal impacts.

Strengthening Women’s Rights, Empowerment & Su***de Prevention

Mr. Altaf Khoso, CEO, Pakistan Legal United Society (PLUS), and Mr. Sunil Kumar, Head of Programme, AMRDO Pakistan, had the opportunity to meet Madam Noreen Bano Laheri, Chairperson, National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Government of Pakistan, in Islamabad.

The discussion focused on critical women-related issues across Sindh, including the concerning cases of su***de among women and vulnerable communities, women’s empowerment, early child marriage, access to justice, and mental health support.

The meeting highlighted the need for greater institutional attention, stronger community support, accessible justice mechanisms, mental health services, and effective preventive measures to protect women and vulnerable communities.
