Reviving a Mughal Masterpiece — A Decade of Dedication ✨

A decade of science‑led conservation has breathed new life into one of the grandest Mughal creations — the Picture Wall of Lahore Fort, a jewel of our UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monumental effort stands as a testament to what vision, expertise, and perseverance can achieve.

We proudly acknowledge and deeply appreciate the remarkable contributions of our dedicated members Mr. Wajahat Ali and Zenia Nasir, whose commitment and craftsmanship played a vital role in restoring this historic treasure. Their work ensures that future generations can continue to witness the splendour of this unparalleled masterpiece.

The Picture Wall now shines again — not just as an architectural wonder, but as a symbol of Pakistan’s enduring heritage and the power of collective stewardship.

Heritage preserved. History honoured. Legacy continued.

A decade of science-led conservation has revived this Mughal masterpiece and its world heritage.

ICOMOS Pakistan has organised a webinar for IDMS 2026. John Peterson, President of , will be delivering the keynote address. We invite you to join us as we reflect on a critical question: Are we prepared to respond to conflicts and their impact on heritage?

Pakistan’s physical and living heritage is increasingly threatened by conflict across its diverse regions. Violence and insecurity damage archaeological sites, historic architecture, and sacred spaces, while also disrupting the traditions that give these places meaning. Together, these pressures endanger Pakistan’s cultural memory, identity, and community continuity.

Join the discussion on April 19th.

ICOMOS is concerned by confirmed and reported damage to cultural heritage in several countries across the region, in particular several World Heritage sites in Iran, Lebanon and Israel.

These incidents highlight the risk of irreversible loss.

UNESCO is deeply alarmed by the impact of the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East on educational institutions, students, and education personnel.

Initial reports indicate that an attack on a girls' primary school in Minab, southern Iran, has resulted in the deaths of over 100 individuals, including numerous students. The killing of pupils in a place dedicated to learning constitutes a grave violation of the protection afforded to schools under international humanitarian law.

Attacks against educational institutions endanger students and teachers and undermine the right to education. In accordance with its mandate and with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2601 (2021), UNESCO recalls the obligations of all parties to protect schools, students and education personnel.
