Strengthening Climate Law Education and Environmental Legal Awareness in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

The Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) organized a capacity-building training session for law students of the Department of Law, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), focusing on International Environmental Law, Climate Change, and the Legal Frameworks for Sustainable Development.

The session provided students with an opportunity to explore the legal dimensions of climate change, its environmental and socio-economic consequences, and the role of international, regional, and domestic legal frameworks in addressing the growing climate crisis. Discussions also highlighted the relationship between environmental legislation, international conventions, climate governance, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 on Climate Action.

The students actively engaged in diverse discussions on how laws and policies can strengthen climate adaptation and mitigation, protect environmental rights, promote accountability, and support sustainable development in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr.Noor Ul Ain Shabir the session as the Chief Guest and distributed certificates among the participating students in recognition of their engagement and participation. Sardar Waleed, Director of Programs at KIIR, also contributed to the initiative.

The Kashmir Institute of International Relations extends its sincere gratitude to the Department of Law, UAJK, particularly Dr. Noor-ul-Ain Shabir and Dr. Syed Murad Ali Shah, Head of the Department of Law, for their valuable support and commitment to strengthening legal education and the professional capacity of law students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

KIIR Engages TEVTA Youth in Climate Change Awareness

The Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) organized a climate change awareness session with youth enrolled in technical and vocational education at a TEVTA Centre in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The session aimed to raise awareness among young people about the impacts of climate change, the importance of environmental protection, and the principles of climate change adaptation and mitigation. It also highlighted the vital role of youth in promoting sustainable practices, adopting environmentally responsible behaviours, and contributing to climate-resilient communities.

Through such initiatives, KIIR continues to empower young people with knowledge and awareness to become proactive agents of positive environmental change in their communities.

🌿 Climate Awareness Session | Government Model Science College

Usman Jahangir Mughal addressed the students of Government Model Science College, Muzaffarabad, on climate change, adaptation, mitigation, and its growing consequences for Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

Students from both the boys’ and girls’ sections actively participated in the discussion and showed great interest in understanding the climate challenges facing our region.

Heartfelt appreciation to the administration, faculty, and students for their enthusiastic participation and continued support for this important journey toward a climate-resilient AJK. 🌱

The Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) is organizing an interactive Youth Workshop for the youth of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their relevance to the future of our communities.
The workshop will provide young participants with an opportunity to engage in meaningful and productive discussions on different SDGs, including quality education, climate action, gender equality, peace and justice, environmental sustainability, and youth participation in development.
Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and idea-sharing activities, the workshop aims to enhance young people’s understanding of the SDGs and encourage them to develop practical ideas and initiatives that can contribute to sustainable development in AJK.
KIIR is committed to empowering the youth of AJK with knowledge, dialogue, and opportunities to become active contributors to sustainable development.

Chairman KIIR, Altaf Hussain Wani and Executive Director, Sardar Amjad Yousaf Khan met the newly elected President of Azad Kashmir, Dr. Najeeb Naqi, and congratulated him on his appointment as the President and also presented him with two recently published reports by KIIR - One on the human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir and another excellent report on climate change.

The Executive Director KIIR also discussed with him the political and administrative situation of Azad Kashmir. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Najeeb Naqi is one of the founding members of KIIR.

🌱 Empowering Women for Climate Resilience in AJK

The Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) organized a capacity-building and awareness workshop for women in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, bringing together women from diverse sectors, including school principals, teachers, college representatives, and stakeholders from various institutions.
The workshop focused on climate change adaptation, mitigation, resilience, and the role of women in addressing the growing climate challenges facing AJK.
The session was graced by Honourable Member of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Ms. Maryam Kashmiri, as Chief Guest, who highlighted the increasing impacts of climate change on women and children, particularly in vulnerable communities across AJK. She emphasized the importance of strengthening women’s capacity and ensuring their meaningful participation in climate action and resilience-building.
The session was also attended by Director Programs, Sardar Waleed Khan, who expressed appreciation to the Honourable Member for her valuable participation, support, and commitment to the Climate Champions Project.
KIIR remains committed to empowering women, children, and young people with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to contribute to a more climate-resilient and sustainable AJK, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
