The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action adopted by the United Nations in 2015. They aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030.
There are 17 interconnected SDGs, addressing a broad range of global challenges including poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work, economic growth, industry, innovation, infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice, and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.
The SDGs built upon the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that preceded them (2000-2015), but are broader in scope, applying to all countries (developed and developing), and emphasizing the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
