Indonesia faces backlash after Pakistan downs three Indian jets; experts call for review, not cancellation.

Indonesia’s ambitious $8.1 billion acquisition of 42 Rafale fighter jets from France has come under renewed public and political scrutiny after Pakistan shot down three of the same aircraft used by India last week.

senior Indonesian official Laksono acknowledged that the episode offered “legitimate and constructive” grounds for “evaluation.”

Earlier this year, Air Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono confirmed that Indonesia’s first six Rafales would be delivered between February and March 2026. Training for Indonesian pilots in France is scheduled for July, and infrastructure including simulators and smart hangars is already being developed at Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base in Riau.

*__Russia and Ukraine 'very close to a deal', says Trump BBC__*

US President Donald Trump has said Russia and Ukraine "are very close to a deal", hours after his envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Moscow.

Trump said it had been a "good day" of negotiations, while the Kremlin described the talks - which Ukraine was not present at - as "constructive".

Earlier, Trump said on social media that "most of the major points are agreed to," and urged Russia and Ukraine to meet "at very high levels" and "to finish it [the deal] off".

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his video address late on Friday that "real pressure on Russia is needed" to accept an unconditional ceasefire.

*US strikes on Yemen oil terminal kill at least 74, Houthis say. BBC*

US air strikes on a key oil terminal on Yemen's Red Sea coast controlled by the Houthi movement have killed at least 74 people and wounded 171 others, the Houthi-run health ministry says.

The US military said it had destroyed Ras Isa "to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists and deprive them of illegal revenue".

The Houthi-led government in north-west Yemen said the terminal was a civilian facility and that the strikes constituted a "war crime".

It was the deadliest known attack since President Donald Trump ordered an intensification of the US bombing campaign last month in response to Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping and Israel linked to the Gaza war.
