Community Innovation Lab | 16-Week Youth Program Successfully Concluded

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the Community Innovation Lab, a 16-week youth-focused program led by PUAN Alumnus Ms. Afsha Jehan, supported by the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network , in partnership with Kurram Welfare Home, and hosted at Bahria University .

The program was designed to equip young people with practical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and innovative approaches to addressing community challenges. Over the course of 16 weeks, participants engaged in interactive learning and collaborative activities focused on:

After 16 weeks of learning, collaboration, creativity, and community-focused initiatives, the Community Innovation Lab officially concluded on 11 August.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network, Bahria University , facilitators, partners, volunteers, and, most importantly, the dedicated youth participants whose enthusiasm and commitment made this initiative truly meaningful.

This was more than a training program—it was an investment in the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers. By building confidence, strengthening skills, and encouraging young people to turn ideas into action, we are contributing to stronger and more resilient communities.

On 18th August 2026, an orientation session for females was conducted under the project "Promoting Gandhara's Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan".

The initiative is being implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) with the support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). The session aimed to introduce participants to the project goals and prepare them for upcoming trainings.

This program focuses on empowering women and connecting them to opportunities in cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. Through KWH and PPAF's joint effort, we are working to build skills, preserve the legacy of Gandhara, and support community development in Taxila.

On 18th August 2026, Artisan Skills Trainings took place at Gandhara Art Village in Taxila under the project "Promoting Gandhara's Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan". The initiative is being implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) with the support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF).

The artisans are now in the practical production phase, working on-site to create and finalize Gandhara-style handicrafts. From molding and detailed carving to polishing and finishing, every step reflects a clear improvement in skill, precision, and quality. The visuals captured document the complete journey of each piece.

This program goes beyond training. It connects traditional craftsmanship with real economic opportunity. By producing market-ready products for cultural and heritage tourism, KWH and PPAF are helping artisans turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods while keeping the legacy of Gandhara alive.

Through this joint effort, we are protecting cultural heritage, strengthening community enterprise, and promoting responsible tourism in Taxila. The goal is to ensure that local artistry thrives and contributes to long-term progress for the people and the region.

MoU Signing Ceremony between Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) and Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

An important milestone was achieved with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) and Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) on 28th July 2026 in Islamabad.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Aftab Muhammad Khan, Secretary General, Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU), and Mr. Muhammad Kamran, Chief Executive Officer, Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

Through this strategic partnership, PNCU and KWH will collaborate on initiatives aligned with UNESCO's mandate, focusing on the fields of education, science, culture, and communication to contribute towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Key areas of collaboration include:

• Strengthening cooperation in UNESCO-aligned thematic areas.
• Developing joint projects, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
• Promoting cultural heritage preservation and sustainable ecotourism.

A dedicated session on Prototype Development and Costing was conducted on 6th July, 2026 at Gandhara Art Village, Taxila, as part of the Artisan Skills Training under the project "Promoting Gandhara's Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan". The program is implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) with the support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF).

During this chapter, artisans worked on finalizing product prototypes and calculating accurate costs for materials and production. The practical session covered design refinement, quality benchmarking, and pricing strategies to ensure market readiness. Artisans are currently engaged in hands-on production and are completing their projects at the site. The work reflects strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and improved product quality. We are pleased to announce the successful commencement of the 3rd Cooking Training Batch in District Rawalpindi under the Technical Vocational Training component of the Ba-Ikhtiar Initiative on 29th June, 2026.

This program is funded by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and PTCL, and is being locally implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

Through this initiative, 25 women are receiving hands-on training in professional culinary skills. The curriculum covers essential areas such as food safety and hygiene, nutrition fundamentals, kitchen management, menu planning, and diverse cooking techniques. The goal is to build strong technical expertise that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods and improved household incomes.

Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) played a key role in identifying, screening, and selecting participants to ensure that deserving women from the community received this opportunity.

An Artisan Skills Training was organized on 29th June, 2026 at Gandhara Art Village, Taxila, under the project “Promoting Gandhara’s Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan”. Implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) with the support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), the session engaged local artisans and community members in an interactive learning experience.

The training included a dedicated module on "Product Presentation and Visual Skills" to equip artisans with modern techniques for effectively showcasing Gandhara-inspired handicrafts. The session focused on strengthening visual presentation and display approaches to better connect with cultural and ecotourism markets.

Facilitators emphasized that the Gandhara civilization represents a vital part of Pakistan’s cultural heritage. Its preservation, promotion, and responsible economic use are critical for sustainable development. The program aimed to enhance artisan expertise, improve handicraft quality, and create new livelihood opportunities through ecotourism and cultural entrepreneurship.

This initiative seeks to empower local communities by linking heritage with economic growth. Participants expressed their commitment to applying the skills acquired to expand their businesses and contribute to the local economy. KWH and PPAF reiterated their continued efforts to advance heritage conservation and position Taxila as a leading cultural and tourism destination.
