MoU Signing Ceremony between Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) and Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

An important milestone was achieved with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) and Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) on 28th July 2026 in Islamabad.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Aftab Muhammad Khan, Secretary General, Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU), and Mr. Muhammad Kamran, Chief Executive Officer, Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

Through this strategic partnership, PNCU and KWH will collaborate on initiatives aligned with UNESCO's mandate, focusing on the fields of education, science, culture, and communication to contribute towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Key areas of collaboration include:

• Strengthening cooperation in UNESCO-aligned thematic areas.
• Developing joint projects, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing platforms.

A dedicated session on Prototype Development and Costing was conducted on 6th July, 2026 at Gandhara Art Village, Taxila, as part of the Artisan Skills Training under the project "Promoting Gandhara's Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan". The program is implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) with the support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF).

During this chapter, artisans worked on finalizing product prototypes and calculating accurate costs for materials and production. The practical session covered design refinement, quality benchmarking, and pricing strategies to ensure market readiness. We are pleased to announce the successful commencement of the 3rd Cooking Training Batch in District Rawalpindi under the Technical Vocational Training component of the Ba-Ikhtiar Initiative on 29th June, 2026.

This program is funded by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and PTCL, and is being locally implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH).

Through this initiative, 25 women are receiving hands-on training in professional culinary skills. The curriculum covers essential areas such as food safety and hygiene, nutrition fundamentals, kitchen management, menu planning, and diverse cooking techniques. The goal is to build strong technical expertise that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods and improved household incomes.

Kurram Welfare Home (KWH) played a key role in identifying, screening, and selecting participants to ensure that deserving women from the community received this opportunity.

The project “Promoting Gandhara’s Civilization and Heritage for Sustainable Ecotourism in Pakistan” is funded by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and locally implemented by Kurram Welfare Home (KWH). Under this initiative, an Artisan Skills Training on Stone Crafting was held on 20th June, 2026 at the historic Gandhara Art Village, Taxila.

The training equipped local artisans with practical skills in traditional Gandhara stone craftsmanship to preserve cultural heritage and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
