Threads of Imagination
تصور کے دھاگے

This workshop is designed to provide participants with a creative space to express their feelings about solidarity among nations & healing. Through collaborative discussions focused on themes of peace, hope, healing from difficult situations, participants are encouraged to translate these reflections into textile artworks.
Using basic embroidery stitches or fabric paints, we shall create phrases, motifs or any designs inspired by thoughts and emotions. These creations will serve as expressions of a collective desire for peace & connection, crafted in the medium of your own choice. The final works will be assembled into a travelling quilt, carrying these shared stories from place to place.
An accredited teacher from South Africa quilt guild, Amber is versatile in teaching design, taking inspiration from nature and daily life to make complex techniques very simple.

Starting the new year on a new note at AOST. We are doing a guided walk through the housing quarters at G-9/2, Islamabad with Architect & Researcher Sidra Khokar!

This walk seeks to highlight the importance of feminist lived experiences that are informally
constructed, in essence, within a formalist built environment such as the mid-rise buildings of
the Government Housing Quarters in Islamabad. It seeks to identify, highlight, and celebrate
the female presence in these Mohallas that are a key ingredient in formulating the Pakistani
identity and the South Asian community historically as well, and also to document the acts of
feminist Mohalla Making that shape the urban construct of Islamabad. This walk is an act of
rejuvenating the culture of Mohallas in the context of the metropolitan city, where it faces the
threat of slowly decaying with the onslaught of ‘tall building culture.

At the end of the walk, the participants will be able to curate their pictorial findings, either through phone photography with a printing service provided on site, or via drawing through interactive mapping/sketching methods. A space will be allocated within the Housing Quarters where the display will be curated as a community building exercise.

Enter the art of mending - and not just mending. Visible mending - where each stitch is a sign of who you are and what you love. The days of constantly buying new are coming to an end. In the last 5 years, clothing production has doubled. It is estimated that the average garment is worn only 10 times before disposal. How do we then make a difference & recycle clothes that were going to the dump?

Join us in this class where Amber will guide you on stitches and techniques to mend in style!

Born to a family of educators, Amber Siddiqui grew up learning handicrafts from her mother & grandmother. She started quilting much later in life and adapted all styles of quilting. Her love & proficiency remain in hand quilting, hand applique and embroidery.

An accredited teacher from South Africa Quilt Guild, Amber is versatile in teaching design taking inspiration from nature & the daily life around you to make complex techniques, very simple.

💥🙌 Join visual artist & storyteller Yumna Sadiq for a hands-on workshop focused on creating whimsical characters through collage and bringing them to life with stop-motion animation at Art of Small Talk on November 29th, 2025. In this playful session, participants will use found materials such as old magazines, newspapers, calenders and other scraps to design their own narrative. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to collage as a storytelling tool. After creating their characters, participants will learn simple stop-motion animation techniques and collaborate to animate a short scene together. No previous animation experience is required....just curiosity and a willingness to experiement. By the end you will take home your own handmade character and be part of a collective animation clip created during the workshop.
