26 Aug 2026: Dr. Khurram Iqbal delivered a guest lecture on “Global Redistribution of Power and Pakistan” to the interns of the KIIR Summer Internship Program 2026.

The lecture examined the changing distribution of global power and its implications for Pakistan. Dr. Iqbal discussed the rise of China, the relative decline of U.S. dominance, and the broader transformation of the international system.

Key discussion points included:
➡️The shifting global balance of power and the rise of China.
➡️China's growing economic, technological and strategic influence.
➡️The implications of great-power competition for Pakistan's strategic interests.
➡️Pakistan's role and strategic options in an increasingly multipolar world.

Empowering Youth for a Climate-Resilient AJK 🌱

Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) organized a one-day climate change training session for the youth of the Kindergarten School System, Muzaffarabad.

The session focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation, emerging climate consequences, and the current and future climate scenarios facing Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Participants were equipped with practical knowledge and effective approaches to address climate challenges and contribute to building resilient communities.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), the initiative emphasizes that investing in youth capacity is essential for meaningful climate action. Empowered and informed young people can become powerful agents of change in advancing climate adaptation, mitigation, and community resilience across AJK.

Youth today, climate leaders tomorrow. 🌍💚

18 August 2026: Interns of the KIIR Summer Internship Program 2026 visited the Army Institute of Military History (AIMH) as part of their educational and academic activities.

The visit began with an introductory briefing on AIMH, its objectives, and its role in documenting, preserving, and studying Pakistan's military history. The session highlighted the importance of historical research in understanding the country's strategic and military developments.

A detailed lecture was subsequently delivered by Brigadier Imran Haider Jaffri (Retd.) on the Kashmir Liberation War of 1947–48. He examined the historical background of the Kashmir dispute following the Partition of British India and discussed the political and military developments that led to the outbreak of the conflict.

Key areas of discussion included:
➡️The historical context surrounding the Kashmir conflict in 1947–48.
➡️The political and military developments during the initial phase of the conflict.
➡️The role of various actors and the broader strategic significance of the events.
➡️The impact of the 1947–48 conflict on subsequent Pakistan–India relations and the continuing Kashmir dispute.

The interns also toured AIMH and learned about its work in preserving and interpreting Pakistan's military heritage. The visit provided them with an opportunity to examine the Kashmir conflict through historical, political, and military perspectives.

On 16 August, Kashmir Institute of International Relations organized a consultation/dialogue with key stakeholders from Gaari Dupatta, Muzaffarabad AJK.

The program, led by Sardar Waleed, Director Programs KIIR, and Usman Jahangir Mughal, Program Assistant KIIR, brought together journalists, political activists, district councillors, and government & private teachers to discuss the impacts of climate change and community-led solutions.

On 15th August, Kashmir Institute of International Relations hosted a Political Leadership & Activists Discussion on Climate Change at Muzaffarabad, AJK.

Leaders and representatives from Pakistan People's Party, Pakistan Muslim League N, Jamaat-e-Islami, President of High Court Bar Association, General Secretary of Central Bar Association, District Councillors and Local Government Councillors joined the dialogue.
Shafiq Abbasi Director Environmental Protection Agency delivered a detailed overview of Climate Change Impacts in AJK.

The discussion focused on youth commitment and how to shape state-level policies for youth empowerment.

On this occasion, KIIR also launched its Seed Funding Project. Director KIIR, Sardar Waleed Khan, inaugurated the initiative,Stakeholders appreciated this important step for community development.

12 Aug 2026: Muhammad Ali delivered a session on “Strategic Communication” to the interns of the .

The session examined the role of strategic communication in international relations and statecraft. Muhammad Ali emphasized that effective engagement with other states requires strong communication, strategic thinking and the ability to identify opportunities that advance national interests.

Key discussion points included:
➡️Strategic communication as an instrument for influencing perceptions and advancing national interests.
➡️The use of soft power and hard power to strengthen a state's position in the international system.
➡️The three key purposes of strategic communication: protecting national identity, influencing others and safeguarding national interests.
➡️The concept of dependency as a form of influence, where powerful states shape aspirations, values and preferences through attractive narratives and models.

The session also highlighted the importance of strategic thinking and effective communication, with reference to the example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Participants were encouraged to question dominant narratives, actively shape discourse and understand communication as a tool of influence.

The discussion concluded by encouraging interns to recognize the importance of strategic communication in protecting national identity, advancing national interests and shaping perceptions in an increasingly interconnected world.
