Preparing for What Comes Next: Building Resilient Schools & Communities

Schools and communities are often the first to respond when disasters strike. Strengthening their preparedness is essential to protecting lives, ensuring continuity of education, and building resilient communities.

As part of the UNDP Pakistan-supported Flood Recovery Programme, disaster preparedness assessments have been conducted by across schools and surrounding communities in District, Larkana, Kambar Shahdad Kot and Dadu of .

Together, we are working towards safer schools, stronger communities, and a more resilient future.

When disasters strike, children are affected the most.

They lose their homes, their schools, their sense of safety and sometimes, their childhood.

Through Children’s Clubs, Acted, with support from UNICEF Pakistan, is assisting children understand climate change, raise awareness and develop the confidence and leadership skills needed to contribute to local adaptation and resilience-building efforts.

Acted is expanding access to education with the support of School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh and Directorate of Literacy & Non-Formal Education, across the underserved districts of Jacobabad and Kashmore, Sindh, through 80 Non-Formal Education Centers, reaching more than 2,500 learners.

Together, we are opening doors to learning and empowering every child with the opportunity to grow, thrive, and emerge as the best version of themselves.

Acted, with the support of UNICEF Pakistan, has launched an inclusive Humanitarian WASH Response Project in the climate-vulnerable districts of Dadu and Tharparkar, Sindh.

The project will directly benefit 40,000 individuals through resilient WASH services:
👩🏻 10,800 Women
👨🏻 11,200 Men
👶 18,000 Children
By rehabilitating water supply systems and school WASH facilities, promoting hygiene, strengthening climate resilience and empowering communities, the project will contribute to its 3ZERO vision: Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, and Zero Poverty.

remains a key pillar of Pakistan’s economy. Through integrated livestock support, Acted is strengthening by improving livestock management, enhancing animal health, establishing protective infrastructure, and supporting vulnerable households with essential inputs.

From livestock trainings and animal shed construction to fodder distribution and capacity building, these interventions are helping communities protect their assets, strengthen livelihoods, and build resilience for the future.

Through its resilient infrastructure initiatives, Acted is strengthening community resilience by promoting bio-climatic construction techniques and training labor in safer, climate adapted building practices.

Adnan, one of the training participants, received hands-on capacity building training along with essential toolkits to enhance his expertise. Today, people from his village and nearby cities actively seek his services to build homes that are stronger, better ventilated, and more adapted to local climatic conditions.

With his improved skills, Adnan’s daily income has significantly increased, enabling him to support his family with dignity while contributing to safer and more communities.
