Clean air is everyone’s business 🌤️

This 7 September marks the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies — a reminder that the air we all breathe depends on the choices we make together, from how we commute to how we power our homes.

At ASHRAE Northern Pakistan Chapter, we work every day on the systems that shape indoor and outdoor air quality — and today’s a good day to talk about it. A few small shifts go a long way: walk or share a ride when you can, plant something green, choose cleaner energy sources, and speak up locally about what’s being burned nearby.

The monthly meeting of the ASHRAE Northern Pakistan Chapter (NPC) was held today in Islamabad, chaired by the Chapter President, Mr. Rana Bilal.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review ongoing chapter activities, discuss upcoming initiatives, and strengthen collaboration among members for the advancement of the HVAC&R profession in Northern Pakistan.

This is a promotional flyer for the 2026–2027 ASHRAE High School Design Competition.

Key details:

• Theme: Students design a new zoo exhibit in San Diego, California — choosing either a tropical rainforest exhibit or an aquarium exhibit.
• Task: Determine summer cooling requirements for the various spaces, select appropriate HVAC equipment, and model the building and its systems using 3D design software.
• Eligibility: Open to students ages 13–18.
• Software requirement: Models must be submitted using SketchUp, and must be original (not copied or recreated from existing work).
• Registration deadline: December 7, 2026
• Submission deadline: Midnight EDT, January 5, 2027
• Prize: 1st place wins $1,000

This talk will cover the potential areas for focus in upgrading our systems for resiliency as well as some of the recent trends and technology changes needed for increasing our ability to maintain resiliency in the built environment. The topics covered will use multiple lenses to discuss aspects of resilience (mitigation, disruptive events, response and recovery) in order to understand the ecosystem of standards, specifications, and codes used to define and assess resilience.
