Strengthening disaster-resilient infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Under the project “Capacity Development for Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure for Safer Communities,” Helvetas Pakistan conducted capacity needs assessments in D.I. Khan, Swat, and Charsadda in consultation with planners, designers, engineers and sub-engineers from government departments, skilled and semi-skilled infrastructure workforce, community O&M representatives, and local civil society organizations.
The assessments helped identify district-specific capacity gaps and training priorities for climate- and disaster-resilient infrastructure planning, design, construction, supervision, operation, and maintenance. The findings will support the development and contextualization of training modules on orientation and awareness, feasibility assessment, risk-sensitive planning, climate-informed design and supervision, safe construction practices, inclusion and accessibility, operation and maintenance (O&M), retrofitting and upgrading, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Through this process, the project aims to strengthen local skills, institutional capacity, and community preparedness for improved disaster-resilient infrastructure in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The project “Capacity Development for Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure for Safer Communities” is implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation – Pakistan and funded by German Development Cooperation.
