Hi 👋 everyone. Remember this boy, Ali, who joined our classes/school for our “bachay” project? Well we have some good news for you all about him 🙂 ....

As you might know he started going to a local school in his area back in March 2021. So we called the school today and the director assured us that Ali is a regular student and is one of the most intelligent ones! Moreover, his brother hs also joined school🤩 So thankfully he’s a student at school for one year this March 2022!

Meet Shazia. She is 12 years old and our eldest girl. She is independent and the most sensible one. She knows what she wants and can take responsibility for her actions. Though her willingness to study is not high, we wish her success in life.

We have some great news! Ali has started going to school! We visited his school today, it's located in the area he lives. The school is free and run by some rich kind people in the society. Government partially helps them. From grade 5 they are taking governmental exams. We saw Ali in school he seemed really happy and his eyes were shining ✨
We got a tour on school, and I really enjoyed it. There are around 200 children, different classes and much place. The school is lacking teachers, especially English ones, so I started to think maybe I could teach there 😁
I was amazed that children in the school are disciplined, no screams, quietly studying. The teachers are peaceful. They said it took them 9 years from 1996 to 2005 to make students go to school regularly. So they were facing the same problems as we do, but eventually they managed to motivate both parents & children about education. Now children understand that studying is their duty and they study regularly and peacefully 🤍 The school timings are from 8:30 am till 12:00 pm so after school the children can work to support their families etc

This time SubhanAllah, Haleema, and Sana came to study. I was so surprised😃 but I wasn’t went feeling well, so they had a small Urdu class and then they colored pictures. I hope they will be coming to study more often now😀

For a few days now, the children haven’t been coming to study 📖 regularly.

I went to the market one time and didn’t see any children there. The second time I went to the market, the children were there although that time they didn’t come to study either.

Then yesterday Shazia came with her mother. She was in Peshawar (a different city) that's why didn't attend classes. Mother came to confirm that Shazia will
be studying.

So we’ve got a regular student🤪. Tell us if you have ever skipped school! 👇

That’s Mariam 👆
Mariam came to study. And this time she brought her uncle along, he’s 20 years old. Mariam’s uncle asked us to teach him English because he wants to work in the UK 🇬🇧 Their relative is already working in the UK and Mariam’s uncle wants to join him. We’re teaching him basic English / simple phrases like “my name is...” & “I am happy” etc.

Apparently, our idea with children getting ready for real school is not working as children are not coming to study regularly these days.
We can only wait and see what happens later 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hopefully, we will get some regular students who are motivated to study 📖

Today, Shazia came to study. But she came in the morning and we had been asking children to come in the afternoon around 1 pm. So we were quite busy and had only small English class with her. But she came from quite a far market and we did appreciate it. Other children have also changed their market location and at the moment they are begging / working quite far away. Their new market is our district central market, it’s a 20 mins walk.
Will see who will come tomorrow!😊

We didn't have classes this weekend, but we talked with the children and explained some new rules to them ✨
So the rules are as follows:
- classes are every day starting after dhuhr (around 1 pm)
- Saturday, Sunday are days-off
- we will give small homework
- students cannot skip more than 3 classes per month without a proper reason.

The problem last week was that two groups of students were fighting (literally, Shazia and Ali has bit each other😄). And they were saying to each other that we have crossed their names from our list of students. I hope after talking with them yesterday (with one group) and today (with other group) we make it clear that they should not listen to others and if any questions they can ask us.

We had 2 classes with 3 girls each. First came Shazia (12 yrs old), Hajra (7 yrs old) and Fatma also 7. Later came Sana (10 yrs old), Haleema also 10, and Habiba (5 yrs old).

We had Urdu class and English class (Alphabets). Today we also started to learn some action verbs as you can see in the video.

Then we asked senior girls what they think about being admitted to a real school, they were for it, however they also admitted that they need money to help their families. So we are thinking to talk with the children’s parents about this. Hopefully, we’ll be able to prepare a few students for real school. For this we need the children to recognize to be less money-oriented and spend more time on studying & education.

We had a class with Mariam and Hussian. English and Urdu class. We asked them where is Qari and Ali so Mariam said they are fighting with Sana, Haleema, & Subhanallah etc 😅 don’t know what’s going on there. But it looks like there are two confronting groups of children. Sheyla’s brother said to her that she shouldn’t come to study even if we pay 100 rupees to her. When we were at Sheyla’s home, her father (or it was her male relative) said that he has some mental health issues and maybe her brother also has it 🤯

Do you guys have any advice for us regarding Sheyla’s case? Let us know in the comments 👇
