A one-day training workshop on “Irrigation Water and Soil Quality” was organized today by EVK2CNR, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Skardu, and Karakoram International University (KIU) on August 27, 2026.
Agricultural experts, professors from KIU, and laboratory specialists delivered technical lectures during the workshop. Farmers from different areas of Skardu, along with male and female students, participated in the training.
The objective of the workshop was to familiarize farmers with modern agricultural practices and scientific approaches to irrigation water and soil quality, with the aim of improving crop productivity based on the findings of the scientific findings at the laboratories established at KIU and UOB under Water for Development.
In this regard, a modern laboratory for water research and analysis has been established at Karakoram International University with financial support from the Government of Italy. The laboratory has been established by EVK2CNR in collaboration with UNDP. Similarly, a plant pythology laboratory has been established at the University of Baltistan for research on plants and crops, enabling farmers to receive scientific and evidence-based guidance.
The participants highly appreciated the initiative and emphasized the need for continued training on these subjects in the future.
The Director Agriculture Baltistan, Mr. Abdul Sadiq, was the chief guest. In his address, he thanked EVK2CNR for organizing the workshop and assured continued cooperation in similar programs in the future.
The training workshop was organized under the Water for Development Project, which is financially supported by the Government of Italy and implemented jointly by UNDP and EVK2CNR.
At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were distributed among all participants.
