Each image you see is speaking to you. The eyes in these pictures are asking for help. I have met many people who didn’t say anything, but their eyes told their whole story. The hardest part is still ahead — rebuilding their homes and lives.
Many people are visiting now, but after a week or two, everyone will leave. Then these families will be waiting for help again. We need to support them by giving each family a chance to start a small business, so they can rebuild their lives.
1- An old man asked me to see his home again. I had visited before, but he forgot and took me there once more. I went after 48 hours. Nothing was left because he is very weak. His son-in-law lives in Faisalabad. The little girl with her grandfather was looking for toys under the rubble.
2- An old man is watching his home and the destroyed neighborhood, with hundreds of people standing around.
3- An old man and a little girl are standing where their home once was, now covered in stones and debris. They are in shock, not knowing what happened.
4- Young men are trying to clear the rubble from their marble factory. The damage is clear in the picture.
5 & 6- Children are playing outside, unaware of the tragedy that has just happened and what the future holds for them.
7- An old shopkeeper took me to the market and asked me to take a picture of his shop. He gave me his ID card, thinking I was from a survey team. I took the pictures to give him some hope.
8- Last but not least, a father and his sons are cleaning mud and debris from their shop in Peer Baba Bazar. The small hands that should be playing are holding shovels because they cannot afford to hire workers.
Can you feel the pain in each of these images?
