A Hidden Architectural Gem of Gujrat Fort, Pakistan 🏛️✨

Look closely at the historic walls of Gujrat Fort (Akbari Fort), Punjab, Pakistan, and you will discover architectural details that have survived for centuries.

This remarkable wall features a beautifully designed arched false window, creating the illusion of an opening where there is actually a solid wall. The layered arches, traces of fresco work, and exposed traditional Lahori bricks reveal the craftsmanship and architectural character of this historic structure.

The wall may preserve elements from different historical phases, potentially reflecting Mughal architectural traditions and later Sikh-period additions. Further research is needed to establish its exact date and construction history.

From intricate architectural details to weathered brickwork, every surviving feature offers a glimpse into the rich and layered history of Gujrat, Pakistan.

History is not always hidden in monuments. Sometimes, it is written into the walls themselves.

قلعہ گجرات کی دیواروں میں چھپی مغلیہ طرزِ تعمیر کی ایک دلکش جھلک! 🏛️✨

قلعہ گجرات (اکبری قلعہ) کی اس تاریخی دیوار پر بنی یہ خوبصورت محرابی کھڑکی اپنے منفرد طرزِ تعمیر کی وجہ سے خاص توجہ کھینچتی ہے۔ پہلی نظر میں یوں محسوس ہوتا ہے جیسے دیوار میں ایک کھڑکی کھلی ہو، لیکن حقیقت میں یہ ایک بند دیوار پر بنایا گیا آرائشی ڈیزائن ہے۔

محراب کی خوبصورت ساخت، اس کے اوپر فریسکو کے باقی ماندہ آثار اور نچلی سطح پر نظر آنے والی چھوٹی لکھوری اینٹیں اس عمارت کی تعمیراتی تاریخ کی اہم جھلکیاں ہیں۔ وقت کے ساتھ مسالے کے اکھڑنے سے اینٹوں کی اصل بناوٹ بھی نمایاں ہو گئی ہے۔

اس طرزِ تعمیر میں مغلیہ روایت کی جھلک دکھائی دیتی ہے، جبکہ بعض آرائشی تبدیلیاں بعد کے ادوار، خصوصاً سکھ دور یا بھنگی مثل کے زمانے سے بھی تعلق رکھ سکتی ہیں۔ تاہم اس کی درست تاریخ اور مختلف تعمیراتی مراحل کا تعین مزید تحقیق کا متقاضی ہے۔

قلعہ گجرات صرف ایک تاریخی قلعہ نہیں، بلکہ مغلیہ، سکھ اور بعد کے ادوار کی تعمیراتی روایات کو سمجھنے کا ایک اہم تاریخی حوالہ بھی ہے۔ اس کی ہر محراب، ہر اینٹ اور ہر باقی ماندہ نقش ماضی کی ایک الگ داستان سناتا ہے۔

Naqvi Burj — Akbari Fort, Gujrat

Standing tall for centuries, Naqvi Burj remains one of the best-preserved bastions of historic Akbari Fort, Gujrat.

One of its original towers has fallen to the passage of time, yet the remaining structure still rises high above the fort — a silent witness to the centuries of history that unfolded within these walls.

Not just bricks and stone.
A fragment of Gujrat’s forgotten history, still standing.

صوبتیاں والا کنواں — محلہ کھاری کھوئی، اندرونِ گجرات کا ایک بھولا بسرا تاریخی خزانہ۔ 🏛️💧

نوٹ: محترم رضوان صاحب کی رہنمائی کے مطابق، محلہ کھاری کھوئی کے اندر موجود اس تاریخی کنویں کا نام صوبتیاں والا کنواں ہے۔ یہ کنواں کھاری کھوئی نہیں بلکہ محلہ کھاری کھوئی میں واقع ہے۔

جدید پانی کے نظام سے بہت پہلے، گجرات کے قدیم شہر میں یہ کنواں روزمرہ زندگی کا ایک اہم حصہ ہوا کرتا تھا۔ یہاں شہر کی خواتین پانی بھرنے کے لیے جمع ہوا کرتی تھیں، اور یہی کنواں کبھی اندرونِ شہر کی زندگی کا ایک خاموش گواہ تھا۔

آج جدید دنیا کی ہلچل سے دور، اندرونِ گجرات میں چھپا یہ قدیم کنواں ہمیں گجرات کے اُس دور کی ایک جھلک دکھاتا ہے، جب پانی کے یہ مقامات صرف ضرورت نہیں بلکہ شہری زندگی اور معاشرتی میل جول کا حصہ ہوا کرتے تھے۔

گجرات کی گمشدہ تاریخ کے ایسے ہی گوشوں کو تلاش کرنا ہی ہمارا ورثہ ہے۔

Sobtian Wala Kho — a forgotten historic well in Mohalla Khari Khui, inside the Walled City of Gujrat. 🏛️💧

Long before modern water systems, this historic well was once part of everyday life in the old city. Women from the surrounding neighbourhood would come here to collect water and carry it back to their homes.

According to local guidance, the well is known as Sobtian Wala Kho, while Khari Khui is the name of the neighbourhood where it is located.

Today, tucked away from the rush of modern life, Sobtian Wala Kho quietly preserves a glimpse of Gujrat’s old urban life, heritage and living history.

A forgotten corner of Gujrat Walled City, but a story worth remembering. ❤️

Gurdwara Guru Kotha Sahib — Wazirabad

گوردوارہ گرو کوٹھّا صاحب، جسے Gurdwara Kotha Sahib Chhevin Patshahi بھی کہا جاتا ہے، وزیرآباد، ضلع گوجرانوالہ کا ایک اہم تاریخی سکھ مذہبی مقام ہے۔

روایت کے مطابق چھٹے سکھ گرو، سری گرو ہرگوبند جی (1595–1644) کشمیر کے سفر سے واپسی پر تقریباً 1620ء میں وزیرآباد تشریف لائے۔ یہاں انہوں نے اپنے عقیدت مند بھائی خیم چند جی کے گھر قیام فرمایا۔ پنجابی میں گھر یا رہائش کے لیے استعمال ہونے والے لفظ “کوٹھا” سے اس مقام کا نام Guru Kotha مشہور ہوا۔ بعد ازاں اسی مقام پر گوردوارہ تعمیر کیا گیا۔

مقامی روایت کے مطابق گرو ہرگوبند جی کے قیام کے دوران بھائی خیم چند جی کا انتقال ہوا اور گرو صاحب نے خود ان کی آخری رسومات ادا کیں۔ بعد میں ان کی یاد میں گوردوارے کے احاطے میں ایک یادگاری برج بھی تعمیر کیا گیا۔

گوردوارے کی عمارت اپنی منفرد تین منزلہ طرزِ تعمیر کے باعث بھی نمایاں تھی۔ بلند چبوترے پر قائم ہر منزل کا ڈیزائن مختلف تھا، جبکہ بالائی حصے میں تین گنبد نما کمرے موجود تھے۔ گوردوارے کے ساتھ ایک بڑا تالاب بھی موجود تھا۔

قیامِ پاکستان سے قبل یہاں بسنت پنچمی اور دیوالی کے مذہبی اجتماعات اور میلے منعقد ہوتے تھے۔ 1947ء کے بعد گوردوارہ متروکہ قرار پایا؛ آج یہ عمارت تاریخی تحفظ اور مناسب دیکھ بھال کی متقاضی ہے۔ پاکستان کے Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) کے ریکارڈ میں بھی Gurdwara Guru Kotha کو وزیرآباد کا ایک non-functional gurdwara درج کیا گیا ہے۔

Gurdwara Guru Kotha Sahib صرف ایک مذہبی مقام نہیں بلکہ وزیرآباد اور پنجاب کی مشترکہ تاریخی، مذہبی اور تعمیراتی وراثت کا ایک اہم حصہ ہے۔

🏛️ Mian Mir Heritage Gallery — Officially Inaugurated

Alhamdulillah!

A new chapter in the preservation and presentation of Lahore’s rich cultural heritage has officially begun with the inauguration of the Mian Mir Heritage Gallery, located at the historic Shrine of Hazrat Mian Mir, Lahore.

The gallery was officially inaugurated today by Dr. Ehsan Bhutta , Secretary Auqaf Department, Punjab, along with other senior officers and officials.

Developed in collaboration with the Auqaf Department, Punjab and Gujrat Heritage Foundation, the gallery brings together a remarkable collection of historical visual material documenting the region’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

Visitors can explore Mughal miniature paintings, Sikh-era artworks, British-period lithographs, and rare photographs from the early 20th century — offering a unique visual journey through centuries of history.

The research and historical documentation for this gallery was carried out by Mobeen Ur Rehman, Founder of Gujrat Heritage Foundation.

The Mian Mir Heritage Gallery is not merely an exhibition space; it is an effort to preserve our historical memory and make it accessible to future generations.

From the legacy of Hazrat Mian Mir to the visual history of Punjab — a new heritage experience is now open in Lahore.

A proud moment for heritage conservation, cultural tourism and historical storytelling in Pakistan.

A New Chapter in Heritage Is About to Be Revealed

ALHAMDULILLAH!
A landmark heritage project is nearing completion — and the doors will soon open to a journey through centuries of Punjab’s rich history.

In collaboration with the Auqaf Department, Punjab, the Gujrat Heritage Foundation is bringing a unique heritage gallery to life — a space where history, art and visual memory come together under one roof.

Under the supervision of Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, Secretary Auqaf Department, Punjab, this project is now entering its final stage.

The gallery will feature Mughal miniature paintings, Sikh-era artworks, British-period lithographs, and rare photographs from the early 20th century, offering visitors an extraordinary visual journey through the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The project is almost ready.
The inauguration is coming very soon.

But for now…
the curtains remain closed. 🎭
