While banks, development corporations and aid agencies focus on larger scale projects, many charities and groups provide small scale localized support for disadvantaged communities. Through effective communication and community involvement, these schemes often provide significant contributions to communities who would otherwise fall behind the needs of the survivors of conflict and natural disaste
rs around the world. The Health, Education, Environment and Development (HEED) Association is one such initiative which aims to employ low cost, appropriate solutions to improve the lives of isolated communities in Pakistan. Following successful initiatives employed elsewhere, the charity supports education initiatives, healthcare training and water and sanitation projects to meet these aims. To ensure success, the Association engages with communities to discuss requirements and utilize the local skills, labour and materials while providing technical, logistical and financial support. HEED Association is registered under the ‘Azad Jammu & Kashmir Council Extension of Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration & Control) Act, 1982’.
