Dated: April 18, 2026
Issued by: Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan

The Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan strongly condemns the false, baseless, and fabricated news circulated last evening on various social media platforms and by certain media individuals regarding the alleged death of renowned poet, singer, resistance voice, and cultural icon, Baba-e-Hareep Ustad Jan Ali.

The news claiming that Ustad Jan Ali had passed away was entirely false and irresponsible, causing deep sorrow, distress, and emotional pain among the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. Ustad Jan Ali is not only a legendary artist but also a symbol of the cultural identity, resistance poetry, and collective voice of the region. He is widely recognized as the national poet and a true representation of Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is reassuring that shortly afterward, a video message from Ustad Jan Ali was received, in which he himself rejected the news as false and addressed the nation, confirming that he is safe and in good health. While this message eased public concern, the incident has once again highlighted the serious issue of irresponsible journalism and the spread of fake news on social media.

The Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan expresses grave concern over the dissemination of such unverified and sensitive information, which not only damages the dignity of respected individuals but also hurts the sentiments of the entire community.

The Council urges the concerned authorities, district administration, cybercrime wing, and law enforcement agencies to take immediate legal action against those responsible for first spreading this false news, so that such irresponsible behavior is discouraged in the future.

Ustad Jan Ali remains a cultural identity, pride, and heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan. Any false or misleading information regarding such a respected personality is unacceptable.

Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan
The Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan strongly condemns the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack on police personnel in the Thore area of Chilas, District Diamer. In this tragic incident, three brave police officers embraced martyrdom, while four others were injured.
We express our profound grief and sorrow over the loss of these precious lives. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families of the martyrs. We pray that Allah grants the departed souls the highest Ranks in Jannah and blesses the injured with a swift and complete recovery.
It is a matter of serious concern that terrorist elements have reportedly been active in the region for quite some time. The apparent delay in taking effective and timely action against such elements raises critical concerns. Such negligence only emboldens these forces and puts both security personnel and innocent civilians at significant risk.
The Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan strongly urges the Government of Pakistan and the Gilgit-Baltistan authorities to take immediate, firm, and decisive measures against all terrorist elements, including their facilitators and support networks. Protection of human life and the maintenance of law and order remain the foremost responsibility of the state.
Failure to address this issue with urgency and seriousness will continue to threaten not only the security forces but also the peace, safety, and stability of the entire region.

PRESS RELEASE
Human Rights Council of Pakistan – Gilgit-Baltistan
Gilgit: An unfortunate incident occurred today in which the provincial office of the Human Rights Council of Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, located in a market area of Gilgit city, was completely destroyed by fire between approximately 8:00 to 9:00 AM. As a result of the incident, all important records, documents, and essential materials present in the office were burned to ashes.
It is pertinent to mention that the team of the Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan had recently met with the Interior Minister, Mr. Sajid Ali Baig, and the Spokesperson to the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Shabbir Mir, to request that the office be provided on a rent-free basis. The authorities had given positive assurances in this regard.
In continuation of these efforts, the team also met with the Director of GDA, Mr. Azharullah, who assured that the office, being used for social welfare and human rights activities, would be provided rent-free. Furthermore, Mr. Rehmatullah, President of the Contractors Association, had taken responsibility for the renovation of the office, and preparations for its formal inauguration were underway.
It is also noteworthy that an important meeting with the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan regarding this office was expected soon; however, this tragic incident has adversely affected that progress.
Before the inauguration could take place, this devastating incident occurred, leaving the entire team of the Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan in deep sorrow and distress.
Today, President of Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Aman Ali Shah, Additional General Secretary Ms. Yasmeen Afzal, and Coordinator Mr. Mushahid Hussain Bagoro visited the affected site. The delegation conducted a detailed inspection and compiled a comprehensive report, which has been submitted to the central leadership.
The Human Rights Council Gilgit-Baltistan expresses profound grief and concern over this tragic loss and urges the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan to immediately arrange an alternative office so that human rights activities may resume without interruption.
We hope that the government will extend full cooperation in this difficult time and take prompt practical steps to ensure the continuation of this important mission for the promotion of human rights.

Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan
The Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan appreciates Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts, which have contributed to easing tensions between the United States and Iran and paving the way for ceasefire negotiations. This development is not only significant for the two countries involved but also crucial for the peace and stability of the entire Middle East region.
According to the Council, Pakistan demonstrated a balanced and prudent foreign policy by maintaining its brotherly relations with Iran while simultaneously taking Arab countries into confidence to promote regional harmony. At the same time, Pakistan effectively engaged the United States through diplomatic channels, convincing it that dialogue—not conflict—is the only viable path to resolving disputes.
It is commendable that Pakistan was chosen as a trusted mediator for peace negotiations, reflecting the growing confidence of the international community in Pakistan’s diplomatic role. The Council believes that this initiative played a vital role in averting a potentially large-scale conflict, even the risk of a third world war, thereby saving millions of precious human lives.
The Human Rights Council of Gilgit-Baltistan also highly appreciates the leadership and statesmanship of Pakistan’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Their visionary leadership and effective strategy significantly contributed to de-escalation and the promotion of peace in the region.
The Council firmly believes that the sustainable resolution of all conflicts lies in dialogue and diplomacy, not war. War leads to the loss of human lives and poses a serious threat to the survival of humanity.
The Council urges the international community to promote peace, dialogue, and mutual respect to ensure a safer and more peaceful world.
