A delegation of the Gilgit-Baltistan Town Planners Association (GBTPA), led by its President, Mr. Shareef Hussain, had the honor of meeting the Honourable Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Amjad Hussain Azar, at the GB House, Islamabad.

The delegation, comprising town planners serving in various federal government organizations and development authorities, including the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), highlighted GBTPA’s voluntary contributions toward policy formulation and strategic planning for Gilgit-Baltistan.

During the meeting, GBTPA highlighted its voluntary contribution to the formulation of Gilgit-Baltistan’s first-ever Town Planning and Building Control Regulations 2023 for the local government, a landmark milestone for sustainable urban and regional planning in the region. The delegation also discussed various institutional options for the establishment of a Directorate of Town Planning to strengthen urban governance and promote planned, climate-resilient, and sustainable development across Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore, GBTPA emphasized the critical role of the town planning profession in addressing the challenges of rapid urbanization, climate change, glacier conservation, and disaster risk reduction through evidence-based planning and policy interventions.

The Honourable Chief Minister appreciated GBTPA’s dedicated voluntary efforts and acknowledged the Association’s timely advocacy for sustainable urban and regional planning in Gilgit-Baltistan.

GBTPA sincerely appreciates the Honourable Chief Minister for his valuable time, encouragement, and support. The Association remains committed to working closely with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan to promote evidence-based planning and contribute to a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous future for Gilgit-Baltistan.
