Men as Allies in Menstrual Health

With the support of Mahwari Justice and their well-designed menstrual health manuals, an impactful awareness session was conducted at Dapa Primary School where male teachers played a crucial role in fostering understanding, dignity, and care around menstrual health. This collaboration highlighted how informed support can create safe and respectful learning environments for girls.

In a context where limited information often leads to confusion, teachers chose empathy over silence. Simple yet thoughtful practices aimed at girls’ comfort and well-being were already part of the school culture, reflecting care rather than extremism.

Teachers shared that this initiative addressed a dire need in the area and committed to using this training to continue awareness for students in the future.

Awareness is not gendered. Support makes the difference.

Our volunteers continue to turn awareness into meaningful action.
Masooma conducted a comprehensive RTI and menstrual health session in her village Malong, engaging students at the local madrassa and supporting menstruating members with dignity kits.

This effort not only spreads essential knowledge but also strengthens community confidence in youth-led initiatives. Each session is a step toward breaking stigma, promoting informed choices, and ensuring access to basic rights.

As we observe the 16 Days of Activism, we reaffirm our commitment to creating informed, empowered, and safer communities for all.

Painting Awareness in Pink 🎗️

Today, something quietly powerful unfolded at Dapa School.
Our volunteers returned for another session under the MHM project, this time carrying a message wrapped in the color pink.

They began with a simple, relatable story about the Pink Ribbon Mission, a global reminder about understanding our bodies, noticing early signs of change, and encouraging the women around us to seek help when something doesn’t feel right. The volunteers gently turned these ideas into age-appropriate lessons the students could easily connect with.

The children listened with curiosity, asked thoughtful questions, and discovered how small habits—awareness, empathy, and open conversations can protect the well-being of their families and communities.

A heartfelt thanks to Shaukat Khanum Hospital & Research Centre for providing the informative training material that helped make this session more meaningful and impactful.

The day wrapped up with bright smiles and a shared promise:
to grow up informed, confident, and caring for themselves and for those around.

Professional Guidance, Community Impact: MHM Session Overview 🌸

The Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative, with support from the Micro Grant for Women’s Organizations (MG4WO) under the BEST4WEER initiative of Aga Khan Rural Support Programmme (AKRSP), Pakistan, conducted a focused Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) awareness session in Dapa Katisho.

With the participation of five medical professionals, the session created a safe and open space for discussion, practical guidance, and one-on-one mentoring. The experts addressed common myths, encouraged questions, and shared essential knowledge to help young learners understand menstrual health with confidence.

During the session, Dr. Saira Shigri appreciated the initiative and shared a thoughtful reminder:

“This session is a meaningful start, but it also shows how much more work is needed to ensure informed and supportive spaces for girls and women.”

And for us, this is not just a project; it is a commitment. With every expert we engage, every community we reach, and every conversation we open, we move one step closer to a future where menstrual health is understood, respected, and supported. Our journey continues with purpose and passion.

Empowered Mothers, Empowered Generations 🌸

The Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative continues its mission to build an informed and confident society through its latest SRHR session focused on empowering mothers to end period poverty.

This session aimed to equip mothers with essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene management, helping them understand their own health and well-being while enabling them to become advocates of awareness within their families and communities.

Mothers are the first teachers, the foundation of every household, and the most powerful force for change. By fostering open dialogue and providing accurate information about menstruation, we strive to break the silence, dismantle myths, and nurture a culture where daughters grow up with confidence, dignity, and understanding of this natural process.

Because when mothers are informed, they raise informed daughters, and together, they shape a future free from stigma and period poverty.

The session focused on understanding menstruation as a natural biological process, addressing common challenges, and promoting safe hygiene practices.

This interactive approach created a comfortable and supportive space for students to learn, ask questions, and correct misconceptions in a respectful environment. By encouraging open dialogue, the session aimed to help young learners build knowledge, confidence, and a positive attitude toward menstrual health, an essential step in fostering awareness and well-being among the youth of Dapa Katisho.

🎗️ Pinktober—Spreading Hope, Saving Lives

The Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative, in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre , conducted an awareness session on Breast Cancer to educate and empower women about early detection and prevention.

Every year, thousands of women lose their lives to this silent disease and awareness is the first step toward change.

Through our campaign, we aim to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health and become advocates for awareness within their communities.

Together, we stand for hope, health, and informed choices. 💗
