In this video, a group of Himalayan ibex can be seen climbing back up the steep mountain slopes above Goma. The animals were likely seen after coming down closer to the village earlier to drink water from a nearby stream.

Such moments show the delicate connection between wildlife and the natural water sources of our valleys. In high-altitude environments like the Saltoro Valley, streams often attract wildlife, especially during quiet hours.

The Goma Conservation Committee (GCC) and its Watch Wing regularly monitor these areas to ensure that wildlife remains safe and undisturbed. Protecting these animals and their habitats is a shared responsibility of the community.

During a routine patrol and monitoring activity in the mountains around Goma, our team captured a glimpse of a Chukar partridge quietly moving among the rocky slopes. The chukar is one of the most iconic birds of high-altitude regions, perfectly adapted to the harsh terrain of the Karakoram.

Sightings like this remind us of the rich biodiversity that surrounds our village and the responsibility we share to protect it. Through community efforts and regular monitoring by the Goma Conservation Committee (GCC), we hope to ensure that wildlife continues to thrive in these mountains.

Every bird, every valley, and every mountain stream is part of our natural heritage. Protecting them means protecting the future of our land.

Thriving Wildlife in Goma: Ibex and Chukar Spotted Near Human Settlements

GCC Watch Wing, during a routine patrol in the Ruti Valley, observed signs that ibex had come close to human settlements in the Goma Conservation Area. Droppings and tracks were found near a water stream in the valley, suggesting that the ibex had recently visited the area, probably to drink water.

Upon arrival at the site, the team saw a group of ibex climbing up the nearby mountain. They recorded videos of the animals gracefully making their way upward, seemingly indifferent to the presence of humans.

During the patrol, the team also encountered partridges( Chukar) in the valley. The members expressed great joy at witnessing wildlife safely thriving and present in such abundance in the area.

🌿 Goma Conservation Committee – Ibex Census Activity 🌿

On Sunday, March 8, all members of the Goma Conservation Committee (GCC) participated in an ibex census activity in the Gyari Valley. During this effort, the team surveyed different locations from Tafa to Shorbi.

Throughout the survey, ibex were sighted at several spots, and all observations were carefully recorded in the official census forms. The purpose of this activity was to assess the ibex population in the area and strengthen wildlife monitoring efforts.

After completing the survey, all members returned to Tafa, where the GCC cabinet hosted an iftar for the participants.
Following the iftar, a brief gathering was held in which committee officials informed attendees about the progress made so far and the strategy for upcoming activities. The briefing was well received by everyone present.

On this occasion, police personnel from Gangche, assigned to monitor hunting areas under the orders of the SSP Gangche, were also present.

The census report will be published soon and shared with the relevant institutions.

This activity reflects the local community’s commitment to protecting and monitoring wildlife in the region. 🌿
