The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, visited Havelian and inspected the Lok Sudhar Eye Hospital. Speaking at a ceremony held at a local hotel under the auspices of Lok Sudhar Association (LSA), the Japanese Ambassador stated that the Government of Japan will continue working in collaboration with welfare organizations in Pakistan. He emphasized that the fundamental objective of both the state and non-governmental organizations should be the service of humanity, particularly the support of vulnerable communities.
The event was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Captain (R) Sarmad Saleem Akram, along with other distinguished guests. During the ceremony, Chairman LSA Hafiz Tariq Baig, Executive Secretary Shafqat Ali, and Dr. Amjad Ali briefed the participants on the organization’s objectives and its ongoing social and welfare services.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi appreciated the efforts of Lok Sudhar Association and said that, with the support of the Government of Japan, the Eye Hospital has achieved remarkable progress in a very short period of time. He noted that Japan and Pakistan are close and friendly countries, working together on several people-centered development projects. He further shared that the Japanese people feel honored and pleased to support welfare initiatives in Pakistan.
It was highlighted that, to date, 1,450 eye surgeries have been successfully conducted at the Lok Sudhar Eye Hospital, with 25 per cent of these surgeries provided completely free of cost to underprivileged patients. The initiative has received strong satisfaction and positive feedback from stakeholders and the local community, reflecting trust in the hospital’s services and its transparent and accountable way of working.
On this occasion, the Japanese Ambassador and the Deputy Commissioner of Abbottabad presented certificates of appreciation to Lok Sudhar officials and the doctors of the Eye Hospital. In return, Chairman Lok Sudhar Hafiz Tariq Baig and Director General Umar Farooq Paracha presented an honorary shield to the Japanese Ambassador as a token of gratitude.
