The United States Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, has released the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025–2030. These guidelines emphasize the consumption of nutrient-dense foods while limiting highly processed foods. The recommendations are summarized through an inverted food pyramid that highlights the intake of protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) acknowledges the release of the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans and reminds the public, particularly public health and nutrition practitioners, that the country will continue to follow its own Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid developed by the Department of Science and Technology–Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI). Both tools underscore the importance of a healthy diet, increased physical activity, and limiting the consumption of refined sugars, fatty and salty foods, and alcoholic beverages. The U.S. Dietary Guidelines 2025–2030 place greater emphasis on specific food groups such as protein and dairy, while the Philippine Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid focuses on the consumption of whole and fresh foods, anchored on the core principles of a healthy diet: balance, variety, and moderation.
The NNC reaffirms its commitment to promoting nutrition policies and programs that are evidence-based, culturally relevant, and responsive to the needs of Filipinos. While global guidelines such as those released by the United States provide valuable insights, the NNC emphasizes that local dietary tools—grounded in Philippine data and traditions—remain the most appropriate foundation for guiding healthy eating practices of Filipinos. By continuing to champion the Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid, Pinggang Pinoy, and the 10 Kumainments, the NNC underscores its dedication to fostering balance, variety, and moderation in the Filipino diet, ensuring that nutrition remains a cornerstone of public health and national development.
