Sustainability in Action: A Major Milestone for the Swine Dispersal Project! 🐷

Exciting progress is happening on the ground! On June 21, the first beneficiary of the Sustainable Swine Dispersal Project (SSDP) successfully remitted the sales generated from the pig’s first parity.

This remittance marks a crucial step in the project's lifecycle. These funds are directly channeled back into the program to support feed expenses and resources for the next batch of beneficiaries, creating a self-sustaining cycle of giving.

This milestone was made possible through the vision and hard work of a dedicated team: YAPE members and the youth beneficiary together with her parents.

By working together and practicing sustainable farming, YAPE empowers the youth and helps build a self-reliant community. Cheers to many more successful cycles ahead! 💪

MAS MALAMBOT na ang kanin! 😋😍

Inaprubahan ng National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) ang improved NSIC Rc 222 na ngayon ay kilala sa level up version na Rc 784 o Tubigan 64.

Mas mababa ang amylose content nito kumpara sa original na Rc 222 kaya mas malambot at mas masarap ang kanin nito. Mas mataas din ng higit 4% ang ani.

Ano'ng bago sa improved Rc 222?
✅ Mas mataas na ani: umaabot hanggang 11.43 t/ha. Nasa 6.39 t/ha ang pangkaraniwang ani kung dry season at 5.88 t/ha kung wet season.
✅ Barayting paaga: pwede ng anihin pagka 114 araw
✅ Matibay laban sa mga sakit gaya ng bacterial leaf blight at rice tungro virus
✅ Mahaba ang butil, premium ang milling recovery, at malambot ang kanin.

Ang level up na 222 na kasalukuyang pinaparami ay dinebelop sa ilalim ng OneRicePH, katuwang natin ang International Rice Research Institute at University of the Philippines Los Baños.

𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗖, 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗦 — The holiday season brought a renewed sense of hope to local farmers as the youth-led group 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘀 (𝗬𝗔𝗣𝗘) officially launched the 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (𝗦𝗦𝗗𝗣) on December 18, 2025, at the Virac Municipal Building.

The launch was highlighted by the "good news" shared by 𝗠𝗮’𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗧𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘆, 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 announcing that Catanduanes has officially progressed to the “𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗭𝗼𝗻𝗲” for African Swine Fever (ASF). This indicates that there are no active cases, signaling a safe and green light for farmers to begin repopulating their livestock—a timely Christmas gift for a community striving to recover.

Supported by the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝗬𝗗𝗢) through the 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗚𝗕𝗜𝗦𝗣), the project provides a comprehensive "soft-loan" package valued at ₱𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬.𝟬𝟬 per beneficiary. The first Christmas youth beneficiary, 𝗭𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, teamed up with her parents from 𝗕𝗿𝗴𝘆. 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗻 for this project. They received one (1) high-quality breeder gilt and a complete supply of premium feeds to jumpstart their backyard swine farming.

In the spirit of the season, the project follows a "𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹-𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲" where the Abrillo family will "pay it forward" by returning 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 (𝟭𝟭) 𝗽𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 from future litters to YAPE. These piglets will then be gifted to the next batch of young farmers, ensuring that the gift of livelihood continues to grow across the province.

The ceremony showcased a strong multi-sectoral partnership for progress. The event was witnessed by a dedicated group of officials and mentors, including 𝗠𝗮’𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗧𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘆, Municipal Agriculturist/YAPE Adviser; Provincial Youth Development Office, Mr. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗼; a CAF from Catanduanes State University/YAPE Adviser, Mr. 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼 𝗝𝗿. 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿, and 𝗠𝗮'𝗮𝗺 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀, Youth Development Officer III.

The BS Agriculture Major in Crop Science (4th year, block B) successfully conducted a seminar entitled "𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲" last October 1, 2025, at the CAF Accreditation Room.

The seminar was spearheaded by the 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗴, whose leadership ensured a productive session for all participants.

Under the theme "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴: 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘪𝘭. 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘴," the event aimed to equip future agriculturists with modern strategies for sustainable production and economic viability.

To provide expert insights, the organizers invited esteemed resource persons to share their field experience: 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗔. 𝗔𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗥𝗔𝗴𝗿. (Agriculturist II, MAO Virac), who discussed Rice Farming Local Conditions, focusing on innovations and regenerative practices. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔. 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 (Vice President, YAPE Virac), who led the discussion on Post-Harvest Processing and By-product Utilization, highlighting the potential for value-adding in the crop industry.

Through initiatives like this, the BS Agriculture students continue to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world agricultural excellence. 👩🏻‍🌾
