GSP Catanduanes Council Catanduanes Girl Scout Council was established on September 25, 1950 through the collaboration efforts of 30 woman residing at Catanduanes.

And until now, the Girl Scout Movement is still alive and moving!

Girl Scouting is so much more than badges and campfires; itโ€™s the warmth of knowing someone always believes in you. Thank you to our dear Titas for every unseen hour, every gentle word of reassurance, and every piece of your heart you give so freely to us.

You build our courage when we feel small, and you teach us that kindness is the greatest strength of all. We are who we are today because of your loving guidance.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Josefa Llanes Escoda, a remarkable woman whose dedication to service, leadership, and compassion continues to inspire generations of Girl Scouts.

As we celebrate Escoda Day, may we remember her values and carry them with us through every act of kindness, every service we offer, and every opportunity to help others.

๐Ÿ”– Remembering the life of Josefa Llanes Escoda

Josefa Llanes Escoda was born on September 20, 1898, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte. She was an educator, social worker, and advocate for women and girls. After studying in the Philippines and earning a masterโ€™s degree in sociology in the United States, she trained with the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Upon returning to the Philippines, she trained women to become Girl Scout leaders and organized troops. On May 26, 1940, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines was officially established, with Escoda as its first National Executive.

During World War II, she and other volunteers secretly helped prisoners and civilians affected by the Japanese occupation. She was arrested in 1944 and later died in 1945. Although she did not see the GSP become internationally recognized, her dedication and courage helped build a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and compassion for generations of Girl Scouts.

Her legacy lives on in every Girl Scout who chooses to serve, lead, and inspire. โ˜˜๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

As we start the celebration of Girl Scout Week, the GSP Catanduanes Council will be having a Thanksgiving Mass.

Let us come together in prayer and gratitude as we celebrate the spirit of Girl Scouting, strengthen our sisterhood, and give thanks for the blessings, guidance, and opportunities that continue to inspire us as Girl Scouts.

May this celebration remind us of our commitment to serve, lead, and make a positive difference in our community.
