Last April 24, 2026, the Valenzuela DigiChamps were invited by LYDO to watch Endo on Stage at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City. What we saw was not just a love storyโit was a mirror of the Filipino struggle.
PAG-IBIG O KARERA?
KINULANG ka ba talaga o sadyang NAGKULANG ang sistema?
In a world where everyone is trying to move forward for their families, dreams, and themselves, Endo shows how difficult it is to take even a single step when the system is designed to hold you back. The play presents the story of Leo, Tanya, and Candyโportrayed by Esteban Mara, Rissey Reyes-Robinson, and Kate Alejandro-Juanโwhose lives reveal the painful reality of contractualization, unstable work, and the emotional toll of surviving day-to-day.
But more than its themes of love and chasing dreams, Endo exposes deeper truths about inequality, poverty, and how society continues to fail many Filipino workers. It reflected how millions experience the digital divideโjust like Leo, who struggled with borrowed gadgets and simple online transactions. In todayโs world, digital literacy is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity for survival and progress.
The play also raises concerns about the rapid rise of technology and artificial intelligence. While AI can improve lives, it may also threaten jobsโespecially in a country already struggling with unemployment and economic instability. This makes digital empowerment even more essential, so that the youth are not left behind by technological change.
As DigiChamps, we realized that digital literacy goes beyond being online. It is about using technology to access opportunities, break free from exploitative systems, and create real change. Without digital skills, young Filipinos risk being trapped in low-value, precarious workโthe same kind of cycle portrayed in Endo.
The โEndoโ serves as a powerful reminder of how the Filipino workerโs dignity is challenged by contractualization, corruption, and the lack of social safety nets. One hospitalization can drain a familyโs savings. Public services remain slow and inaccessible for many. This is the reality that pushes countless Filipinos to dream of leaving the country just to survive.
Watching Endo made us understand that while the world evolves digitally, not everyone evolves with it. And that is why the mission of the Valenzuela Digital Champions is vitalโto equip the youth with the skills they need to rise above these challenges and build a future defined not by limitations, but by opportunities.
We thank Valenzuela Local Youth Development Office for this meaningful and eye-opening experience. ๐
