U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the International Criminal Court (ICC) as an "illegitimate international organization."
Rubio said that it seeks to exercise authority even over countries that are not parties to the Rome Statute.
He said the tribunal continues to pursue cases involving non-member states despite their refusal to recognize its jurisdiction.
The United States is not a member of the ICC.
Earlier, the Trump administration launched a sweeping campaign against the tribunal, accusing it of posing "an intolerable threat to U.S. sovereignty."
