Lenten Message

This season of Lent is a sacred invitation to repentance, renewal, and reconciliation—not only with God and one another, but also with creation itself. As followers of Christ, we are called to recognize that the earth is not merely a resource to be consumed, but a living testament to God’s love, imbued with dignity and deserving of respect.
In our time, creation suffers deeply: forests are destroyed, oceans polluted, and communities displaced by the impacts of climate change. These wounds are not only ecological but spiritual, for they reveal our failure to honor the Creator and to uphold justice for the poor and vulnerable who bear the heaviest burdens of environmental destruction.
The Gospel reminds us that Christ came to bring life in abundance. To live this truth today means embracing climate justice and affirming the rights of nature—the right of rivers to flourish and flow freely, of forests to flourish, of species to thrive, and of future generations to inherit a livable earth. Protecting creation is not optional; it is a moral and spiritual imperative.
This Lent, let us fast from greed and exploitation, repent from indifference, and commit ourselves to sustainable living. Let our prayers be matched with action: defending our coasts, resisting destructive projects, planting trees, reducing waste, and standing in solidarity with those most affected by climate change.
In the light of Christ’s resurrection, we proclaim hope: that creation can be healed, justice can prevail, and life can flourish anew. Together, let us walk the Lenten journey with courage and faith, saving the beauty of La Union and safeguarding God’s creation for generations yet to come.
