⚠️ Sensitive content

Two minors allegedly opened fire at a public school in Tacloban City, killing three students and wounding at least seven others less than a month after schools across the Philippines opened for the new academic year.

Schools must be places where parents, caregivers, and guardians can send their children, knowing that they will return home safely.

We grieve for those who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones. The children, families, and staff affected by this terrible event should be offered full support, including mental health support.

If you are feeling distressed or need support, talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent, teacher, guidance counselor, or caregiver. You may also contact the Makabata Helpline 1383 for assistance.

Today, the Philippine Red Cross salutes all the incredible fathers, grandfathers, father figures, and dad-volunteers who serve as the ultimate pillars of strength—not just for their families, but for the entire nation.

Behind these life-saving pillars are dedicated fathers working tirelessly on the frontlines, managing relief logistics, or driving technical innovations to keep communities safe.

Thank you, Dads or Tatay, for teaching us the true meaning of compassion. You protect your homes, and you protect our country.

PRC JOINS IFRC, ICRC, AND 191 NATIONAL SOCIETIES IN CELEBRATING WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY 2026

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, 2026, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance follows the theme “United in Humanity,” meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also serves as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.

“The Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.

Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the world’s largest humanitarian network.

“The Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,” PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang stated.

The PRC commits its adherence to this year’s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.
