March 22 is World Water Day! 💧💙

The World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the global water crisis, and a core focus of the observance is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

This year’s theme is “Valuing Water”. The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment. If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this finite, irreplaceable resource. Without a comprehensive understanding of water’s true, multidimensional value, we will be unable to safeguard this critical resource for the benefit of everyone.

March 22 is World Water Day!!!

World Water Day is an annual observance aimed at raising awareness and taking action on the impending global water crisis.

As a signatory to Agenda 21 of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), the Philippines has been observing World Water Day since 1996, by virtue of Administrative Order No. 258 issued by then President Fidel V. Ramos.

Water is important for survival as it is one of the essesntials in life. Valuing the purpose and importance of water is one great act to support the environment and natural resources.

Water supply has been one of the problems all over the world. Polluted wetlands affects marine species. Excessive rainfall can cause floods. And shortage of water on dams affects the supply of water for humans and environment. Different organizations are working inline with these problems.

Our little actions can create a big movement for water conservation. By simple checking for unattended faucet, awareness on not disposing waste on wetlands and valuing every drop of water. These small acts can have bigger impact.

Mismanaged wastes can end up in coastal areas where wildlife lives. These can threaten wildlife as much as they threaten human health and the environment.

Even in this time of pandemic, let us not stop caring of our environment. Don’t let our discarded used personal protective equipment such as face masks be the reason why another life is put into danger. Wildlife matters too! Dispose of your wastes properly.

Today we celebrate World Wildlife Day!

This year's theme focuses on "Forest and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet." This year’s celebration highlights the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally, and particularly of Indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas.

On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3 March – the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973 – as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. Celebrate with us virtually and let us all discover these links to continuously preserve our livelihoods while sustaining our wildlife and forest resources.
