THE SEASON OF LENT BEGINS!
(MARCH 02—APRIL 14, 2022)

We are now in the holy season of Lent. We begin to realize anew that these are the days of salvation, these are the acceptable days. We know that we are all sinners. We know that in many things we have all offended Your infinite majesty. We know that sin destroys Your life in us as a drought withers the leaves and chokes the life from the land, leaving an arid, dusty desert. Help us now, Lord, in our feeble attempts to make up for past sin. Bless our efforts with the rich blessing of Your grace. Make us realize ever more our need of penance and of mortification. Help us to see, in our ordinary difficulties and duties, in the trials and temptations of every day, the best opportunity of making up for past infidelities. Every day we are so often reminded in field and wood, in sky and stream, of Your own boundless generosity to us. Help us to realize that You are never outdone in generosity, and that the least thing we do for You will be rewarded, full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and flowing over. Then we shall see, in our own souls, how the desert can blossom, and the dry and wasted land can bring forth the rich, useful fruit that was expected of it from the beginning.

Amen.

Mga ka-lingkod, Ordinary Time begins today!

In the current liturgical calendar of the Church, after the Feast of the Lord's Baptism comes the Ordinary Time I. There are 2 periods of Ordinary Time; I (between Christmas and Lent) and II (between Easter and Advent).

Today is the first day of the Ordinary Time I which is the Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time and it will last until March 01 which is known as 'Shrove Tuesday' as it is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday & the Season of Lent.

"Be extraordinarily holy even if the time is ordinary."

Ang araw ng Kapistahan ng Pagbibinyag sa Panginoon ay ang huling araw sa panahon ng kapaskuhan. Manatili nawa sa atin ang pag-asa at pag-ibig na nagmumula sa ating Panginoong Jesus. ♥️

Mga ka-lingkod, every second Sunday in the Christmas Season, we celebrate the visitation of the Three Wise Men to the newly-born Jesus in Bethlehem known as the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.

The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means "to shine upon," "to manifest," or “to make known.” Thus, the feast of the Epiphany celebrates the many ways that Christ has made Himself known to the world, mainly the three events that manifested the mission and divinity of Christ: the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9-11), and the miracle at Cana (John 2:1-11).

The visit of the Magi is emphasized on Epiphany Day, and Christ's baptism is celebrated the first Sunday that follows.

The Catholic Church’s position on abortion is clear. In the magisterial document Donum Vitae (The Gift of Life) the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith affirmed that, “The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception; and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life,” (Sec I.1) Direct abortion, or the intentional killing of a human being living in the womb, of an innocent one, is always seriously immoral because as persons the right-to-life is the most basic and fundamental right we possess. Just like us, they also have the right to live.

As we all celebrate the feast of the Holy Innocents, may we pray that the sacrifice of the Holy Innocents remind those who kill the innocent, and the unborn, that God alone is the author of life and that God will deal with them most severely in time.

Let us all remind ourselves that all life is precious, especially any innocent child killed at the beginning of life.

A blessed Fourth Sunday of Advent beloveds!

The Fourth Sunday of Advent symbolizes Love. The Lord brings the light of love to his people by sending His only Son to earth for our salvation.

This final candle, the "Angel's Candle" symbolizes Love. It reminds us that God is love.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Did you know that Misa De Gallo is technically the midgnight mass on Christmas Eve?

This is according to the dictionary of the Real Academia Española. Misa de Gallo (meaning "Rooster's Mass") was called as such in several countries, with rooster as the heralder of the good news. Somehow in the Philippines, Misa de Gallo came popularly applied to all simbang gabi at Christmastime. So the next time that your grandparents correct you whenever you tell that Misa de Gallo and Simbang Gabi are the same, do not be surprised. ^_^

IF MISA DE GALLO IS TECHNICALLY THE CHRISTMAS EVE MASS, WHAT IS MISA DE AGUINALDO THEN?

Misa de Aguinaldo (meaning "Gift Mass") is among the most distinctive traditions of Christmas in the Philippines. Churchgoers offer the gift of sacrifice of waking up before the break of dawn for nine consecutive days to attend the dawn masses in thanksgiving, as a form of worship, or for a standing petition. Misas de Aguinaldo (plural of "misa" is "misas) are technically the novena masses we attend. These were introduced for the farmers who wake up very early to work, and; to impress Filipino Christian converts on the significance of Christmas Day.

Misa de Aguinaldo is a privileged votive mass, meaning a mass that does not correspond to the liturgical calendar but has a special intention. It is conducted for a ‘grave or weighty reason’ (pro re gravi) and with massive attendance of the faithful. Instead of the violet that is proper of Advent, the color of the vestments of the priests during the Misa de Aguinaldo is white. Gloria is also sung during this type of celebration.
