❗ Justice for Dr. Kent Carpenter ✊

The Philippine Movement for Climate Justice vehemently condemns the killing of Dr. Kent Carpenter and calls for the Philippine government to immediately enforce the rule of law to arrest and punish the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

Dr. Kent co-authored the study that identified the Verde Island Passage (VIP) as the “center of marine shore fish biodiversity” and was among those who advocated for its designation as a World Heritage Site.

Dr. Kent's work significantly raised the community's ongoing fight to protect VIP as fossil gas developments continue to threaten critical marine ecosystems in the area.

Scientists and those advancing the protection of biodiversity are not safe in a country that treats nature as a commodity. We demand justice!
