In the wake of yesterday’s devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake, countless families have been left facing loss, uncertainty, and the challenge of rebuilding their lives. The Political Science Society, invites you to be part of something greater than yourself. As we grieve the loss of someone who was more than just an adviser — but a second parent, a confidant, and a friend to all of us — Sir Rodel's presence was a steady light in our journey, guiding us through challenges with patience and celebrating our victories with genuine joy. In every word of encouragement and every act of kindness, he showed us what it means to lead with love and to serve with humility.

Though our hearts ache, we choose to remember him with gratitude. We carry his lessons as seeds planted in our lives — seeds of resilience, hope, and service. As we honor Sir Rodel's memory, let us promise to live out the values he taught us, to lead with the same warmth he gave, and to keep his spirit alive in every step we take. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗧𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗔 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡.

Some voices speak to be heard, and some voices speak to awaken a nation. One of those voices belonged to Miriam Defensor Santiago — a woman whose words carried courage, whose mind carried brilliance, and whose heart carried unshakable love for truth.

In the halls of power where many chose silence, she chose to speak. With sharp wit and fearless honesty, she stood firm against corruption and injustice. Her speeches were not just words; they were calls for the nation to think, to question, and to rise above complacency. She reminded Filipinos that leadership is not about pleasing the powerful, but about serving people with integrity and conviction.

More than a senator, she became a guiding voice for the youth. She believed that the strength of the nation lies in young minds that dare to think and hearts that dare to act. Her message continues to echo among students and future leaders, encouraging them to challenge what is wrong and defend what is right.

Though time has silenced her voice, the fire of her words continue to burn in the hearts of those who believe in truth and accountability. She showed us that true leadership does not come from power alone, it comes from the courage to speak the truth, even when the truth is difficult to hear.

The recent circulating statement made in a public setting reminds us that objectifying women, whether framed as "just imagination" or "just a compliment," is never harmless. It reinforces a culture where women’s dignity is treated as negotiable and their worth reduced to desire. It reflects a deeper problem in how society continues to view and treat women.

Words matter, especially when they come from people in positions of power. They shape what becomes acceptable.
They influence how women are seen, heard, and treated in public spaces.

This is not about being overly sensitive.
This is about drawing a clear line between respect and objectification.

A compliment uplifts.
Objectification reduces.
And reducing women to fantasies is not harmless. It strengthens a culture that tolerates discrimination, harassment, and silence.

We honor women not only by praising their strength, but by defending their dignity, especially when it is challenged.
