In celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month 2026 (NDRM 2026), the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) emphasize that protecting our environment means protecting lives.

More than serving as natural shields against storms, trees are essential to our daily survival and well-being. They help cool communities during extreme heat, filter rainwater to replenish clean groundwater and healthy watersheds, and provide habitats that support biodiversity and strengthen resilient ecosystems.

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon underscores the importance of long-term preparedness: "We have to make preparedness a way of life, and not just when there is disaster."

Supporting this vision of building self-reliant and disaster-resilient communities, PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang adds: "Our goal is to help our fellow citizens in the long term so they can truly recover and stand strong against future disasters."
