Stop Normalizing Filipino Resilience: Demand More from Our Government!

For too long, the narrative of Filipino resilience has been romanticized, particularly in the face of relentless crises. While the ability of Filipinos to bounce back from adversity is undeniably admirable, this constant praise inadvertently normalizes suffering and absolves those in power of their fundamental responsibilities. It's time we stop celebrating resilience as a substitute for good governance and demand the systemic changes we deserve.Our resilience is not a choice; it's a necessity born out of a lack of adequate support and preparedness from our government. When typhoons devastate communities, when economic hardships push families further into poverty, or when public services falter, Filipinos are often left to fend for themselves.

The 'Filipino spirit' is then invoked to commend our ability to cope, rebuild, and smile through the pain. But what about the accountability of those who should have prevented or mitigated these crises in the first place?This narrative creates a dangerous cycle. It allows for complacency, where failures in disaster preparedness, corruption, and insufficient social safety nets are overlooked because 'Filipinos are resilient.' It shifts the burden from the government, whose duty it is to protect and serve its citizens, to the very people who are suffering.

We are not meant to merely survive; we are meant to thrive.True resilience should be about building robust systems, investing in infrastructure, ensuring equitable access to resources, and fostering proactive governance that anticipates and addresses challenges. It's about a government that prioritizes the well-being of its people, not one that relies on their inherent strength to compensate for its shortcomings.It's time to reframe the conversation.

Let us acknowledge our strength, but let us also channel our collective energy into demanding better. We deserve more than just the ability to endure; we deserve a government that works tirelessly to ensure we don't have to be endlessly resilient in the face of preventable hardships. Let us demand accountability, transparency, and genuine service, because only then can we truly build a nation where resilience is a choice, not a constant burden.

Too often, their identities have been dismissed as a "phase" a temporary state to outgrow. But history and lived experience tell a different story. Being LGBTQIA+ is not just a phase; it is a vibrant, diverse reality rooted in truth, courage, and resilience.

Pride is more than a celebration, it is a declaration. It honors the struggles of those who came before and fuels the ongoing fight for equality. Despite discrimination, exclusion, and violence, the LGBTQIA+ community continues to rise with strength, creativity, and love. Each individual’s journey is a testament to the power of self-acceptance and the enduring human spirit.

In every rainbow flag, there’s a story of survival. In every march, there’s a legacy of resistance. And in every voice that proudly says, “This is who I am,” there is truth. The LGBTQIA+ community is not a trend or a passing moment. It is a force of resilience that refuses to be erased because who they are is not just a phase, but a powerful and permanent part of the human story.
