CAS Blazing Phoenix Prevails Over Silang Flaming Phoenix in Semifinal Volleyball Thriller

Silang Flaming Phoenix bowed out of the semifinal round after a tightly contested volleyball match, falling to CAS Blazing Phoenix with a final set standing of 1-2, despite finishing the tournament with an even 2-2 overall win-loss record. The match unfolded with dramatic shifts in momentum, showcasing sharp plays, tough defense, and a thrilling finish that sealed CASโ€™ spot in the next stage.

CAS seized control early in the opening set, surging ahead immediately with a 1-0 run and never letting go. The team commanded the net and dictated the pace, while Silang struggled to find rhythm and crack through CASโ€™ defensive wall. CAS closed the set comfortably, 25-14, to take the early lead.

The second set told a different story. CAS again made a strong start, jumping to a 2-0 advantage. But Silang refused to foldโ€”the squad tightened its defensive coverage, launched faster, more calculated attacks, and traded points neck-and-neck with CAS. Every rally was hard-fought, and Silang eventually edged past CAS, 25-22, leveling the match at one set apiece and turning the contest into a deciding third frame.

In the third set, Blazing Phoenix opened with a strong 4-0 run, putting immediate pressure on Flaming Phoenix. The Silang-based squad fought back and kept the set within reach until the closing moments. The final point turned into a long rally before Animas ( #15) of CAS sealed the victory with a decisive attack, giving CAS a 15-13 set win and semifinal triumph.

๐—–๐—”๐—™ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ | CVSU Silang Places 4th in Kundiman Solo

CVSU Silang placed 4th in the Music Solo Kundiman category at the Culture and Arts Festival 2026 [CAF], competing against entries from across other campuses.

The performance featured Zarsuela Jasmine on vocals, accompanied by pianist partner Kevin Gutierrez. Under the guidance of coach Jay Lopez, the duo delivered a heartfelt rendition that highlighted their vocal expression and musical partnership.

The Kundiman category tested each performerโ€™s ability to convey emotion and mastery of the traditional Filipino genre. While CVSU Silang did not place in the top 3, the teamโ€™s showing reflected strong preparation and a commitment to preserving Filipino musical heritage.

Right Moves Pay Off as Silang Chess Team Bags Twin Bronze

Two Silang chess representatives delivered medal-winning finishes after securing bronze medals in the chess tournament, with the awarding held at the University Grandstand of Cavite State University โ€“ Don Severino de las Alas Campus yesterday, May 13.

Fredrick Principe and Francine Alamag each captured bronze medals to banner Silangโ€™s campaign in the two-day meet.

The tournament, which ran from May 11 to 12, featured seven rounds of competition. For Fredrick Principe, a graduating student, the bronze medal carried added significance as he closed his collegiate journey with a memorable finish in what he hopes to be his final tournament before graduation.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Silang squad fell short of medal contention but still delivered solid performances throughout the event. Aside from the two podium finishes, another Silang representative narrowly missed a medal after settling for fourth place in a tightly contested final round.

The twin bronze finishes underscored the teamโ€™s determination as they continue to represent the university in future tournaments.

Silang Flaming Phoenix Runner Endures Knee Setback, Finishes 400-Meter Run Finals

The menโ€™s 400-meter run demanded both speed and endurance, but for Silang Flaming Phoenix runner Justin Avila, the race quickly became a test of willpower after an early injury disrupted his performance.

Avila shared that he opened the race with confidence and control, believing he was ahead during the opening stretch. However, the momentum shifted abruptly within the first 100 meters when he felt his kneecap move out of place.

The sudden discomfort forced him to reassess his pace while still in motion. By the time he reached the straight at the 200-meter mark, the injury had already begun affecting his run.

From that point, Avila made the difficult decision to prioritize safety over speed, easing his pace to avoid further damage.

Despite the setback, he completed the race with composure, displaying discipline and determination under pressure. Rather than dwelling on frustration, Avila shifted his focus toward recovery and preparation for the seasons ahead.

For him, crossing the finish line marked not the end of the challenge, but the beginning of recovery and a determined return next year.

Silang Cue Artist Grabs Silver in Debut Billiards Campaign

First-year Silang representative Xedrick Salgado turned an early setback into a stunning comeback, fighting through the loserโ€™s bracket all the way to the championship round, where he secured the silver medal at the billiards tournament held at Cavite State University โ€“ De las Alas Campus.

In the silver medal match, the Silang cue artist outplayed his opponent from Carmona Campus in an 8-ball encounter, sealing a 2โ€“1 victory to advance to the title clash.

However, competing under 9-ball rules in the gold medal match, Salgado fell short against CCAT, suffering a 3โ€“1 defeat and settling for second place.

โ€ŽDespite the result, his run was notable as he started from the loserโ€™s bracket and still managed to fight his way into the finals, showing resilience throughout the competition.

His run stood out as remarkable: starting from the loserโ€™s bracket, he battled his way deep into the finals, displaying consistent resilience and poise throughout the competition.

As a rookie competing in his first-ever collegiate tournament, Salgado admitted he was not fully satisfied with his performance. Even so, the experience fueled his drive to join more events, sharpen his skills, and gain greater exposure in future competitions.

Silangโ€™s mixed doubles pairโ€”Problete and Tucayโ€”also delivered a strong performance. They exchanged sharp shots and stayed competitive until the very end, finishing in a tight 2โ€“2 draw. Though they missed advancing to the next round, their grit and determined play earned them admiration and respect on the table.

The Silang Flaming Phoenix Womenโ€™s 3x3 Basketball team redeemed themselves earlier today after securing an 8โ€“2 victory against the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) Midnight Ravens.

Coming off an 11โ€“4 loss to the Bacoor Stingrays in their previous outing at the Don Severino de las Alas Campus Open Court, the Flaming Phoenix responded with renewed energy throughout the match.

The victory marks an important bounce-back performance for Silang as they continue their Womenโ€™s 3x3 Basketball campaign in the University Games 2026.
