A Historic and Blessed Sunday in Veruela Ward

The Stake Presidency and Stake leaders were grateful to attend the Veruela Ward Conference, a truly historic and memorable occasion as we also witnessed the creation of the new Sampaguita Branch.

For a long time, the Saints in Sampaguita had hoped and prayed to have a group in their area because of the distance from the Veruela Ward meetinghouse and the cost of transportation. The Lord knew the desires of their hearts. In His own time and way, instead of a group, the Lord blessed them with a branch. What a beautiful reminder that the Lord is mindful of His people and knows their needs.

We are grateful for the dedicated leaders and members of Veruela Ward, together with our full-time missionaries, for their faithful efforts in helping build the kingdom of God in this part of His vineyard.

The conference was also filled with inspiring messages that strengthened our faith in Jesus Christ.

Bishop Wello Castro of Veruela Ward reminded us that the blessings of the gospel bring happiness, peace, and joy even in the midst of life's challenges. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and our obedience to the laws and ordinances of His gospel, we can find strength and hope.

Sister Kimberly Arsenal, Stake Primary President, shared a powerful reminder about our rising generation. We are all children of God, and we cannot successfully navigate our mortal journey without the companionship of the Holy Ghost. As parents and leaders, we have a sacred responsibility to teach and strengthen the rising generation so that the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant may continue from one generation to the next.

President Joselito P. Graven, First Counselor in the Stake Presidency, taught us about the importance of our spiritual health. Just as we strive to take care of our physical bodies and live healthy lives, we must also nourish our spirits.

Our spiritual health is greatly influenced by what we choose to consume and how we spend our time each day. We nourish our spirits through sincere prayer, fasting, studying the scriptures, attending Church meetings and activities, and worshipping in the temple.

What a wonderful and historic day for Veruela Ward and the Saints of the newly created Sampaguita Branch. May we continue to strengthen one another, especially the rising generation, as we follow Jesus Christ and help build His kingdom.

In 2 Chronicles 15, the prophet Azariah delivered a powerful message to King Asa:

“The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.” (2 Chronicles 15:2)

For many years, Israel had wandered without the true God, without inspired teaching, and without living according to His law. Yet through His prophet, the Lord extended an invitation to return. Azariah encouraged Asa to remain faithful and strong, assuring him that “his work would be rewarded”.

King Asa did more than listen, he acted. He took courage, removed the idols from the land, and renewed the altar of the Lord. His willingness to follow the prophet's counsel brought spiritual renewal not only to himself but also to his people.

Today, the Lord continues to guide us through His living prophet and inspired leaders. Like King Asa, we are invited not only to hear the Lord's counsel but also to act upon it with faith and courage. As we remove the "idols" that distract us from God, whether pride, worldly distractions, harmful habits, or anything that weakens our relationship with Him, we make room for the Spirit to dwell more abundantly in our lives.

The promise remains the same today: “when we seek the Lord, He will be found of us.” As we obey His counsel, He strengthens us, blesses our families, gives us peace, and rewards our faithful efforts according to His perfect timing.

As you ponder this scripture, I invite you to prayerfully consider these questions:

1. When was the last time you heard and acted upon an invitation from the living prophet or your priesthood leaders?

2. As you acted on that invitation, what habits, attitudes, or worldly distractions did you choose to put away? What blessings have you received from Heavenly Father as a result of your obedience?

May we, like King Asa, have the courage to act immediately upon the Lord's counsel. As we seek Him, remove anything that distances us from Him, and faithfully follow His prophet, we will experience His promised blessings and find greater peace, strength, and joy in Jesus Christ.
