𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮’𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗜𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗻

Mariing kinokondena ng Akbayan Youth ang pamamaril sa Junior High School campus ng Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) sa Zamboanga City ngayong Agosto 18 na kumitil sa buhay ng dalawang estudyante. Sa mismong paaralan, isang lugar na dapat ligtas para sa pagkatuto, paglaki, at pagbuo ng kinabukasan ng kabataan, buhay ang nawala dahil sa karahasan.

Hindi maaaring ituring ang nangyari sa ADZU bilang isang hiwalay na insidente. Kasunod ito ng iba pang kaso ng karahasan sa mga paaralan, kabilang ang nakamamatay na pamamaril sa Tacloban City noong Hunyo. Sa loob ng paaralan, hindi takot ang dapat nararamdaman ng mga kabataan. Dapat silang malayang makapag-aral at makapagpokus sa kanilang mga pangarap sa isang ligtas at protektadong espasyo.

Nanawagan kami sa mabilis at transparent na imbestigasyon sa insidente, dahil hindi dapat armas ang hawak ng mga bata sa eskwelahan gayundin ang agarang psychosocial support para sa mga naapektuhan. Matagal nang hinihingi ng kabataan ang mas ligtas na mga paaralan—kaya dapat singilin si Marcos Jr. sa kanyang pangako sa SONA at ipatupad ang konkretong hakbang upang tunay na magling ligtas ang mga estudyante't paaralan.

Ngayong araw, tutukan natin ang impeachment hearing ni Vice President Sara Duterte. Bilang kabataang Montalbeño, mahalagang maunawaan natin ang mga isyung kinahaharap ng mga opisyal ng ating bansa at kung paano gumagana ang ating mga demokratikong institusyon.✊🏻❤️

Hindi ito panahon para sa bulag na paniniwala o bulag na pagkontra. Panahon ito para makinig sa mga ebidensya, unawain ang mga argumento ng magkabilang panig, at bumuo ng sariling pananaw batay sa mga katotohanan. ✊🏻

Ang isang mulat na kabataan ay hindi basta nakikisabay sa ingay—siya ay nagsusuri, nagtatanong, at naninindigan para sa katotohanan.

𝗔𝗞𝗕𝗔𝗬𝗔𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗔: 𝗚𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗗𝗦𝗔 𝗪𝗢𝗡’𝗧 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨

Akbayan Party strongly opposes the use of EDSA for a gathering in support of Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is expected to face charges of plunder. While we uphold the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, these are diminished and betrayed when they are invoked not to speak truth to power, but to protect the corrupt and powerful. EDSA is sacred ground in our nation's history. It symbolizes the Filipino people's struggle for truth, justice, and accountability. It is not a sanctuary for plunder and impunity.

Equally deplorable, but not surprising, is the open support this gathering has received from twice-impeached Vice President Sara Duterte and ousted Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano. Sara has every reason to support any effort that could undermine her impeachment trial. Cayetano, meanwhile, has once again demonstrated his remarkable talent for inserting himself into every political spectacle in search of relevance.

We call on the Filipino people to reject the false narrative being peddled by Marcoleta's camp and to defend the true spirit of EDSA. We likewise challenge the administration to stand firm in pursuing charges against Marcoleta and to swiftly file cases, arrest, and send to jail all those involved in the flood control corruption scandal, regardless of whether they belong to the camps of the Dutertes or the Marcoses. This is already long overdue. Justice delayed only deepens public distrust and division.

And to Marcoleta, Akbayan’s message is simple: You may bring your supporters to EDSA, but you cannot claim its legacy. EDSA is defined not by geography but by principle. It belongs to those who fought tyranny, corruption, and impunity, not to those seeking refuge from accountability. You may temporarily occupy EDSA, but you will never inherit its meaning or use it to escape justice.

Ngayong araw, magsasagawa tayo ng pamamahagi ng libreng sanitary pads at condoms mamaya malapit sa Burgos National High School, sa mismong Office ng Daang Bakal 1-2 HOA.

Layunin nating palakasin ang kamalayan ng kabataan pagdating sa kalusugan, responsableng pagpapasya, at pangangalaga sa sarili. Dahil ang tunay na malasakit, may aksyon.
