THE HOUSE SAYS YES TO FUNDING THE LGBTQIA+ SPECIAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE! 🌈✊🏼

Gabriela Women's Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago, 4Ps Partylist Rep. JC Abalos, and Guimaras Lone District Rep. JC Rahman A. Nava, MD expressed their support to increase funding for the Special Committee on LGBTQIA+ affairs under DSWD.

We hope more of our from the government commit to strengthen government mechanisms, programs, and funding towards gender inclusion and equality.

💭 Through the MMM Technical Working Group, advocates called for increased funding for the Special Committee and stronger government investments in LGBTIQ+ inclusion and gender equality. These demands have been brought to allies and champions in Congress.

FUNDING HIV EDUCATION IS GREATER HEALTH PROMOTION

Our Rep. Sarah Elago sought clarification on DOH’s efforts and budget on HIV-related information and education efforts.

👂What transpired during the hearing:
Rep. Albert Garcia, the sponsor of the agency’s budget, responded that DOH has a P283.813 million proposal for 2027.

Health promotion is a crucial aspect of the HIV response, specifically for accessibility and ensuring the uptake of HIV commodities, programs, and services. The community welcomes the increased proposed budget for HIV-related health promotion and urges the government to utilize the budget and expand HIV education campaigns, including digital platforms.

EVERY STUDENT DESERVES SCHOOLS WHERE THEY CAN THRIVE 🏫✨

During a congressional hearing, our Cong. Mader Perci Cendaña emphasized the need for gender-inclusive schools.

📊What the analysis says:
The results of the 2016 National Baseline Study on Violence Against Children by the Council for the Welfare of Children and the Systematic Literature Review on the Drivers of Violence Affecting Children by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) show that LGBT children are at a higher risk of physical and psychological bullying and sexual harassment committed by their peers.

As we await the General Appropriations Bill, we hope that our allies in the Department of Education remain committed to reflecting inclusion, diversity, and equality in their budget for learning institutions, ensuring that every learner can excel and thrive with dignity and pride. 🌈🤝

INVESTING IN YOUNG PEOPLE IS REIMAGINING A THRIVING, SAFE, AND DIGNIFIED FUTURE🌈

As PANTAY marks its 10th year of advancing , we remember the changemakers that created lasting impact in their communities. Among them are our partners from the project, .

ACCESS equipped student leaders from Universidad de Manila - Bahaghari with knowledge in SOGIESC, SRHR, and community engagement.

These learnings were put into action as they organized youth-led SRHR campaigns, engaged in community organizing, and took up political space at the Manila Youth Development Council.

Through our partnership with Universidad De Manila - Bahaghari and the support of DKT Philippines Foundation, we continue to open pathways for young people to grow, lead, and advocate.

Limampu’t apat na taon na simula nang ideklara ang Batas Militar. Isang panahong pinatahimik ang tinig ng sambayanan, ninakawan ng kalayaan, at pinagkaitan ng katarungan.

Saksi ang mga lansangan sa ating pakikibaka. At ang hinihiling nating dumaloy dito ay hindi baha, hindi dugo’t pawis, hindi karahasan laban sa mga naghahangad lamang ng pagbabago.

SCALING UP INCLUSION, HIV & AIDS PROGRAMMING AMONG YOUTH THROUGH SK COUNCILS AND YOUTH LEADERS 🌈✊

Our Cong. Mader Perci Cendaña called for the nationwide expansion of Hakdaw Kabataan, an HIV and AIDS capacity-building program for SK Councils pioneered by NYC, UNAIDS, and HASH.

🔎What the budget analysis says:
The National Youth Commission co-funded three (3) Hakdaw Kabataan trainings through its ₱16 million training budget in 2026.

However, this budget is spread across 22 training activities. If distributed equally, the ₱16 million budget would amount to approximately ₱727,000 per training. At present, the training is limited to Metro Manila, leaving untapped SK funds in other regions that could potentially support HIV programs.

👂What transpired during the hearing:
NYC Chairperson Jeff Ortega affirmed that they have piloted the program in Metro Manila alongside their inclusion initiatives, particularly their Pride Month celebrations.They are requesting more budget to bring their inclusion programs to Visayas and Mindanao and also to include initiatives for women and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

We are hopeful for our allies at the National Youth Commission (NYC) for their continued investment and expansion of this initiative on a national scale.

Last August 28, PANTAY’s National Convener Anna Cubacub, shared PANTAY’s story of advocacy and impact at the 12th anniversary of Canva Philippines where they hosted a Pitch A Non-Profit Program.

Canva opened pathways for Canvanauts to volunteer, donate, and contribute to PANTAY’s advocacy efforts for equality.
