โFrom memories, we moved toward meaningful actions.โ
Athena by LoveYourself successfully conducted Flames of Care: From Memories to Movement, a meaningful two-part program composed of the Solemn Prayers and Candlelight Offering and the Gap-to-Action Workshop, which brought together partner organizations, community leaders, SK Federations, and youth organizations from Caloocan, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan in solidarity for a strengthened community-led HIV response.
Dr. Arlene R. Sanchez, Physician-in-Charge of the Caloocan Social Hygiene Clinic, delivered a comprehensive discussion on the current HIV situation in the Philippines, highlighting key realities, emerging concerns, and the continuing challenges faced by communities affected by HIV. The discussion provided participants with a clearer understanding of the rising cases of HIV, particularly among the youth, as well as the social and structural barriers that continue to hinder prevention and treatment efforts.
The session evolved into a meaningful and collaborative dialogue where participants actively exchanged insights, experiences, and observations regarding the realities faced by communities vulnerable to HIV.
Beyond the presentation of statistics and situational data, the discussion encouraged reflection and collective learning among participants. Community representatives shared lived experiences and grassroots realities, emphasizing how stigma and social inequalities continue to discourage individuals from accessing healthcare services and support systems. The dialogue underscored the importance of strengthening community participation and multi-sectoral collaboration in creating more responsive, inclusive, and people-centered HIV programs.
The session ultimately reinforced the shared commitment of participants to work collectively toward a stigma-free environment and a more accessible, compassionate, and community-driven HIV & AIDS response.
