On July 30, 2026, LFI hosted this month’s Kumustahan Session, titled "Beyond Gratitude: Where Life Meets You-mility (Humility)." It was a moving occasion where graduating Scholar-IPTs shared heartfelt reflections on how their training journey and past experiences have shaped their personal growth.

The recognition of the outgoing Scholar-IPTs was filled with meaningful stories of overcoming challenges and genuine gratitude. It was inspiring to hear one Scholar-IPT highlight the importance of seeking parental mentorship and making thoughtful life decisions. The team was also moved by another Scholar-IPTs story of growth, as he noted that his time with the company and the LFI Kumustahan helped him shed his former shyness. He movingly described shifting from a place of feeling intimidated and viewing the world as unfair to finding real happiness, concluding that the world is indeed fair to him.

During the session, Dualtech mentors shared inspiring stories of resilience, motivating the students to persevere in their academic journeys. The participants also enjoyed a "Gratitude Walk"—a Snakes and Ladders-style activity—that encouraged them to reflect on their personal lives and express gratitude.

Congratulations once again to our outgoing Scholar-IPTs; we look forward to celebrating with you and your family at your graduation. We also extend our sincere thanks to all our Scholar-IPTs for your active participation and openness during the session. It is our hope that the Kumustahan Session serves as a reminder to always maintain a spirit of gratitude, even during life's most humbling seasons.

See you next month!

On July 24, 2026, the Lao Foundation, Inc. celebrated a significant milestone as it held the first-ever Awarding and Culminating Activity of the i-Volunteer: Service Out of Love Volunteer Development Program. The event marked not only the completion of the program but also the beginning of a renewed commitment among D&L employees to embrace volunteerism as a way of life—both within Lao Foundation initiatives and in the communities they serve.

Designed to equip and inspire D&L employees for meaningful volunteer engagement, the program journeyed through five comprehensive learning sessions. Each session invited participants to look beyond the act of volunteering and discover the deeper purpose of development work, social responsibility, and compassionate leadership. More than building skills, the program nurtured hearts that are willing to serve with empathy, integrity, humility, and genuine act of service for others.

The celebration was made even more meaningful through the inspiring message shared by Mr. Alfred Li, Vice Chairman of Lao Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation. His reflections reminded everyone that true volunteerism is not measured by the magnitude of one's actions, but by the sincerity of the heart behind every act of service. To give support and inspiration to the pioneer of this program, Mr. Dean Lao Jr, President of Chemrez Technologies, Inc. and Chairman of Lao Foundation also attended the culminating activity.

Equally moving were the personal testimonies of three program participants—Mr. Amramm Amiel Mejia, Ms. Gwennee Ku, and Ms. Angie Borja. Their stories of growth, learning, and transformation reflected how the program had strengthened their desire to become instruments of positive change. Their experiences demonstrated that volunteerism is a journey of continuous learning, where every encounter becomes an opportunity to uplift lives while growing as individuals.

As the ceremony concluded, the event became more than a recognition of accomplishments—it became a celebration of hope. Hope that every participant will continue to carry the spirit of service beyond, into their workplaces, communities, and everyday lives. The culmination may have marked the end of the program, but it also signified the beginning of a lifelong journey of compassionate leadership and meaningful volunteerism.

The Lao Foundation looks forward to seeing this pioneering batch of i-Volunteers become catalysts for positive change, proving that when individuals choose to serve with love, even the simplest acts can create lasting impact.

As the Lao Foundation marks its 16th anniversary, we celebrate the inspiring stories of Jay Ar Masocol and Ian Mark Monterey. Their journeys mark a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to supporting the children of coconut farmers. Their unwavering determination to overcome life's challenges is a testament to what can be achieved when given the right opportunities.

Jay Ar Masocol and Ian Mark Monterey are both from Buenavista, Quezon Province—a community that the Lao Foundation (LFI) actively supports its coconut farming families. Their parents are members of the Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Barangay Ibabang Wasay (SMBIW), a group supported by LFI. They have benefited from the ongoing collaboration between the samahan and LFI, which includes scholarship support for the children of its members.

This collaboration has since expanded throughout the municipality of Buenavista. We are deeply grateful to the local government, particularly through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), for their partnership in extending these opportunities to the broader community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Dualtech Training Center Foundation Inc., our steadfast partner on the ground. Their collaboration has been instrumental in reaching more families and expanding opportunities for the youth. Their commitment goes beyond providing schooling; they also actively nurture and strengthen our scholars through joining our monthly Kumustahan sessions.

The collaboration with the D&L Group’s – Natura Aeropack Corporation and D&L Premium Foods has also been instrumental to this achievement. These business units have created pathways to success through LFI’s 'Education to Employment' program, offering both hands-on in-plant training and employment opportunities to our scholars.

LFI also values the dedication of Ian and Jay Ar’s parents, whose commitment to their children's education has been essential to their success.

Pagbati Jay Ar at Ian Mark! Patuloy lang sa pag-abot ng inyong mga pangarap. Always remember and carry our LFI values and tatak as LFI-Dualtech scholars.

We are proud of you!

Lao Foundation (LFI) is proud to celebrate the graduation of our 1st batch of scholars who took agriculture-related courses, made possible through our partnership with Davao del Sur State College. This milestone reflects the successful “coco-llaboration” between LFI and D&L Group business units—Oleo-Fats Incorporated and Chemrez Technologies Inc.—as we work together to support the education of the children of coconut farmers in Davao del Sur.

To our dear scholars: As you reach this milestone, may you always cherish the journey we have shared and the Kuyas and Ates who guided you with both hands and heart. We hold your parents, professors, mentors, and supporters in the highest regard, acknowledging the incredible support they provided throughout your journey.

May you carry the ‘Tatak LFI’ values of integrity, service, and humility into your future. We challenge you to be agents of positive change using your talents and resources to make a lasting difference in your community.

Congratulations and a job well done!

Growing Together: A Journey of Self-Awareness, Resilience, and Intentional Parenting

On June 28, 2026, the Lao Foundation Team concluded the final session of Kumustahan for Parents with a meaningful gathering focused on reflection, growth, and shared learning.

Parents were invited to look back on their parenting journey, celebrate what they have learned, and recognize where they are in this season of their lives. Through guided conversations and heartfelt sharing, they discovered a powerful truth: every parent has their own unique journey and lessons to learn (“bawat yugto ng pagiging magulang ay may kanya-kanyang aral”).

The session also emphasized the importance of self-care. Parents reflected on how caring for their physical and emotional well-being enables them to better fulfill their roles as parents, providers, and guides for their children. As shared during the session, “We cannot give our best when we ourselves are already exhausted.” (“Hindi natin maibibigay ang ating best kung tayo mismo ay pagod na.”)

More than anything, the gathering became a safe space for parents to realize that while parenting is deeply rewarding and fulfilling, it also comes with challenges—and that is perfectly okay. They left with a renewed belief that there may be no perfect parent, but there are parents who continue to learn, grow, and become better each day (“Walang perpektong magulang, may mga magulang na patuloy na natututo pa rin.”)

Thank you to all the parents who shared their stories, wisdom, and hearts with us this academic school year 2025-2026.

“A Milestone in Empowering Our Future Through Education”

From June 29 to July 2, Lao Foundation, Inc., in collaboration with the various business units of the D&L Group of Companies, worked together with a shared commitment to support the educational journey of Filipino learners. This collaborative effort was facilitated by the Lao Foundation Team headed by Ms. Cristina Embate-Viray, the Human Resource Section led by their Head, Ms. Maricor Lucido, the Employee Engagement Manager, Ms. Angelica Borja, the Security Department led by Sir Philip Juntilo, and the dedicated members of i-Volunteer (LFI Volunteer Group).

Together, they successfully distributed school supplies tothe seven (7) partner schools of Lao Foundation-------Bagumbayan Elementary School, Libis Elementary School, Manggahan Elementary School, Santolan Elementary School, Tomas Earnshaw Elementary School, Pagaspas Elementary School, and San Ramon Elementary School. Through this initiative, 13,874 students and 425 teachers received essential school supplies that will enable them to commence the school year with optimism and confidence.

This project serves as a testament to the potential that can be achieved when organizations and individuals collaborate with a common purpose. Beyond providing school supplies, it reflects the collective belief that every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to pursue a brighter future.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and dedication to make this initiative a success. Your generosity and spirit of service have made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of students and teachers. Together, we continue to inspire hope, strengthen communities, and invest in the leaders of tomorrow.

The LFI team attended the Dualtech Training Center commencement exercises on June 26, 2026. This graduating batch included another batch of scholars from Buenavista, Quezon Province—all were children of coconut farmers—as well as one scholar from Antique.

One of the eight graduates is now employed at D&L Premium Foods Corp through LFI's Education to Employment (E2E) program. This success is a result of the strong partnership across D&L Group business units and the invaluable support of the Buenavista LGU PESO, who helped reach out to families within the local coconut farming community.

Congratulations LFI scholars! Your perseverance and commitment to your studies have truly paid off. LFI is so proud of what you have accomplished.

Last June 26, 2026, members of the Lao Foundation Team visited the campus of National Teachers College (NTC) for a Day of Appreciation. LFI’s first batch of scholars with NTC have now reached what they have long worked hard for and persevered to accomplish, their dreams of graduating were now theirs.

During the event, scholars shared the journey that they went through, and the gratitude that they have towards Lao Foundation for the support that was provided to them. Members of the LFI team, in turn, motivated the graduates to keep pursuing their dreams and to keep striving for excellence and character particularly in this very tumultuous time in our country’s education system.

During our brief breakout session, the graduates shared that they had hoped to be able to spend more time with members of the LFI Team, and hopes that, even as alumni, they will be given a chance to do so along with the next batch of LFI-NTC scholars.

Overall, it was a good day of celebration and recognition of what has been accomplished and what can still be achieved in the years to come.

Congratulations again to all our LFI-NTC graduates! Looking forward to seeing you all achieve your dreams!

The second session on the value of Humility entitled “Aspects of Humility” was held last June 25, 2026. Another group of volunteers from LFI’s Volunteer Development Program also took part in the session’s activities and discussions.

To start, the group recognized the trainees that were about to complete their in-plant training in D&L Premium Foods. Each trainee was given the opportunity to share what they have learned throughout their training, as well as advice that they would like to leave the rest of the group.

The session proper, on the other hand, revolved around the different aspects of Humility – the intellectual, emotional, and psychological – and how these are often misunderstood, overlooked and undervalued in the current self-centered and prideful world that we live in.

Through various games and activities, the points on why humility is important in each aspect was emphasized; why it is more helpful to acknowledge that “I don’t know” a certain thing, or why it is in making mistakes that you learn and grow as an individual, and lastly, why you need others to ultimately succeed in life.

The LFI Team would like to thank the volunteers who shared their time and resources in order to be with our trainees this session. The team hopes that this experience has helped bolster your passion to volunteer and serve.

Thank you and congratulations as well to all our trainees who have completed their in-plant training! May you continue to live by the values that were instilled in you.

Lastly, thank you to our in-plant trainees for another fruitful session! See you all next month!
