"The Lungs of the City"
In the midst of bustling cities and expansive urban landscapes, urban forests and green spaces develop as critical sanctuaries of peace and biodiversity. The challenge of ensuring that cities are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable should go with a well-designed and managed urban forests that are integral to meeting this challenges.
The Office of the Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs (OUPPIA) joins the Forest Management Bureau (FMB) in the nationwide Tree Hugging Campaign to remind us of our individual responsibilities and actions toward the protection and conservation of our forests.
Urban forests and green spaces are vital resources that improve the health, well-being, and sustainability of cities and communities. It improves the quality of life for residents and visitors by providing important ecosystem services, recreational activities, and aesthetic benefits. They also promote environmental sustainability and encourage social cohesion and resilience.
As we work to make cities healthier, more livable, and sustainable, let us recognize the value of urban forests and green spaces as integral components of urban planning, design, and development, and collaborate to conserve, improve, and expand these vital green assets for future generations.

Bagras, scientifically known as Eucalyptus deglupta, is widely regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful trees. Commonly found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Philippines, this tree is a fast-growing species often used in urban parks and landscape projects. Its smooth, multicolored trunk is the main attraction. As the bark flakes off, it reveals a bright green color that gradually changes into hues of yellow, orange, red, and brown, creating a vibrant technicolor display, especially in the warmer months.
