: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙢? 🌌

Did you know that 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒂, the 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒓, is considered the most scientifically accurate black hole ever shown in cinema? 𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝑲𝒊𝒑 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒆 even described it as “𝒃𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒍” of a black hole on screen.

Instead of guessing what it should look like, the filmmakers used real physics and a technique called 𝒓𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 to show how light bends around a black hole. This created the iconic glowing ring and warped appearance based on actual scientific principles.

The movie also realistically shows time dilation where time moves slower near massive objects. In Interstellar, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒂 𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉, 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒊𝒏’𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒚.

Christina Hammock Koch or better known as Christina Koch was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2013. She spent nearly a year in space trying to take it farther around the Moon.

Now, she was assigned as a Mission Specialist on the Artemis II mission on the moon. Her most recent employment was as a flight engineer on Expeditions 59, 60, and 61 of the International Space Station which helped her to prepare and adjust in extreme environments, including the research stations in Antarctica and the Arctic. Also, the isolation and pressure of long-term missions.

𝗦𝗛𝗘'𝗦 𝗔 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥 𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗥𝗕𝗜𝗧

During one of her missions in the International Space Station (ISS), Koch took part in the first all-female spacewalks and set a record for the longest single mission by a woman with a total of 328 days in space. Not only that— she also participated with astronaut Jessica Meir in the first-ever all-female spacewalk in 2019.
Meanwhile, according to GMA News Online, the Artemis II was NASA's first lunar exploration since the Apollo Program. Lastly, she will not make a lunar landing with her crew. Rather, they will test equipment that will allow future missions to land astronauts on the lunar surface before orbiting it and returning to Earth.

Filipino scientist Ramon C. Barba revolutionized the mango industry after creating a groundbreaking discovery that came from simple observation and experimentation.

Unlike other scientists, Barba sought a simpler way of inducing mango flowers by experimenting with chemicals, such as potassium nitrate, rather than relying on conventional methods such as smoke.

After conducting the experiment, Barba discovered that mango trees that were sprayed with chemicals were able to produce flowers and fruits three times a year, as opposed to only once.
This groundbreaking discovery significantly impacted the mango industry in the Philippines, as it helped increase mango production and grow the industry.

What is even more amazing is that although Barba was granted a patent for his discovery, he chose not to collect royalties, allowing mango farmers across the world to enjoy his discovery for free.
With a single brilliant idea, Barba was able to help make mangoes grow year-round, showing that even simple ideas can change the world. 🥭

The idea of a "bug" in machines is not new. In fact, 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙀𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣 talked about bugs in electrical circuits in the 1870s. By the early 1940s, people working on the first computers found both hardware and software bugs, with American engineers already using the term for small flaws in machines.

On September 9, 1947, engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer discovered a moth trapped inside the machine, which had caused a malfunction. The insect was removed and taped into the computer’s logbook.

The term “𝙙𝙚𝙗𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜” became widely used to describe the process of fixing computer errors. Although the word existed in engineering before, this event cemented its place in computer science history.

𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧, a mathematician and computer programmer, with the rest of the team, helped popularize the use of the term computer bug and its related phrase "debug."

The DC STEM Society recently had the exciting opportunity to visit PAGASA Planetarium in Quezon City on March 7, 2026, and attend the Free Planetarium Show: Women and Girls in Astronomy. During the show, we explored the beauty of the night sky and learned about different constellations and how the position of the Sun changes as time passes.

The visit was both educational and inspiring, giving us a deeper appreciation of astronomy and the important role of science in understanding our universe. Experiences like this encourage curiosity and remind us to keep exploring the mysteries beyond our world. 💫

Due to its material—the 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 (𝗣𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱) 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻, it is sensitive to temperature changes which makes it expand in the heat of summer and contracts in the cold of winter.

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗟 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥?

During hot weather, the structure can grow by up to 𝟭𝟱 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝟲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀) because of 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, a natural process in which heat makes the Iron’s atoms move farther apart. This makes the tower slightly taller and may cause it to lean a little away from the sun.

In winter, when temperature drops, the Eiffel Tower can lose a few centimeters or shrink back to its original height.
The tower doesn’t also shrink to a size smaller than its original height, as its contraction only happen within the normal limits of the material.
