The Philippine Association for Forensic and Legal Linguistics successfully concluded its 1st Asian Biennial Conference 2025 , held from 25-27 November 2025. The conference brought together scholars, practitioners, and researchers from across Asia for meaningful discussions and knowledge exchange in the field of forensic and legal linguistics. Heartfelt thanks go to Bukidnon State University for graciously hosting and supporting such a well-organised and memorable first conference.

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) will host the first Asian Biennial Conference of the Philippine Association for Forensic and Legal Linguistics (PAFLL), on November 25-27, 2025, with the theme, “Language, Justice, and Indigenous Systems: Advancing Forensic and Legal Linguistics in the Asian Context.”

A pre-conference training was held on November 24, 2025, at the BukSU Mini Theater.

PAFLL’s first onsite event is indeed a success! 🎉

Dr. Isabel Picornell, MCSFS, Visiting Research Fellow at the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics, delivered an intensive and insightful training on authorship analysis—demonstrating how linguistic theories can illuminate the language of ransom notes, su***de notes, texts presented as evidence, and detailed investigative reports.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this milestone event possible!

Linguists play a crucial role in ensuring fairness and clarity in courtroom communication—yet their expertise remains largely unrecognised in the Philippine judicial system.

As part of the PAFLL Webinar Series on Forensic Linguistics, this session will explore how the absence of linguists in lower courts impacts judicial outcomes, access to justice, and the protection of language rights.

With the increasing importance of reliable witness testimony in legal and investigative contexts, the need for effective methods of eliciting and analyzing statements has never been greater. As part of the PAFLL Webinar Series on forensic linguistics, this session will highlight how linguistic approaches can enhance the credibility and accuracy of witness accounts.
