The Geullah Christian Retreat House was established in March 2016 in the initiation of the Chief Executive Director, Ms. Norisa D. Caringal. When President Rodrigo Duterte came into power, it was then that she realized that drug issue is a huge problem in our society. According to 2012 United Nations reports that among all the countries in Southeast Asia, the Philippines has the highest rate of methamphetamine abuse. Many of the family were broken due to the consequences and destructive effects of drug addiction. Ultimately in large measure the worst effect of prolonged drug use could be the weakened spiritual relationship with GOD.
In her empathy, she decided to open-up a drug rehab center to help drug dependents to recover from the disease of addiction. She believes that the disease is also a spiritual battle to be dealt in a spiritual manner. The Extra Judicial Killings brought her to realize that she needs to do something to stop the killings.
“Geullah” came from the Hebrew word meaning; “Redemption and Salvation”, with its supporting verses from the book of Psalm. “Who redeems thy life from destruction, who crowns thee with loving kindness and tender mercies? Psalm 103: 4 Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
The GCRH is located at Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City. The center has two (2) major programs to help the drug dependent to renew their mind and changed for drug free life outside namely “The Twelve Step Recovery Program and The Christian Growth Program”.
