This is the opportunity to turn your hobby into a display of skillful reading and quick comprehension. A memorable experience, prizes, and bragging rights are up for grabs for all participants! 🏆✨ Let these contest guidelines serve as your practice round 📜:
𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙪𝙡𝙚𝙨
1. The competition is open to all bona fide students of PUP Main – Department of Library and Information Science, as well as members of partner organizations, and EXCEPT the organizers of Battle of the Readers.
2. The quiz bee is individual in nature.
3. The quiz bee includes one (1) book choice – “𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝗕”.
𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: - “𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝗕” shall cover general and trivia questions of the book.
a. The first number of participants who registered through Google Forms shall be the official participants of the contest. The official participants will receive a confirmation email.
b. The quiz bee will be held online via Zoom on 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 21, 9𝗔𝗠 - 12𝗣𝗠 𝗳𝗼𝗿 “𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝗕”. All participants are required to be in the Zoom at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
c. The participants are encouraged to have a well-lit space and follow a proper dress code (casual wear e.g., T-shirt not sleeveless) as they are required to open their cameras during the entire program.
d. The participants are encouraged to use two gadgets: one which will be used in zoom and another one for answering the questions.
e. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. Top three winners will receive a Certificate of Recognition.
f. Non-compliance with any of the stated general rules will mean disqualification from the contest.

1. The competition is open to all bona fide 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 EXCEPT the organizers of Bookmark Making Contest.
2. The contest is 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 in nature.
3. The contest is categorized into two: (1) 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 and (2) 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹/𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.
4. The bookmark should measure 𝟮 (𝘄𝗶𝗱𝘁𝗵) 𝘅 𝟲 (𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁) 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 long and in 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 orientation.
5. Only 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 per student will be accepted.
6. The theme for the Bookmark is: “𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.”
7. Your entry must be your 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 and not previously published or submitted to other contests. Using AI generative tools (e.g. ChatGPT, CoPilot, etc.) is strictly prohibited as it will be considered plagiarism and will result in disqualification.
8. Non-compliance with any of the stated general rules will mean disqualification from the contest.
9. The contestants are allowed to use 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀/𝗮𝗽𝗽 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 of their choice in making their Bookmarks.
10. Entries must be submitted in 𝗝𝗣𝗚/𝗣𝗡𝗚/𝗣𝗗𝗙 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁 for both categories in line with the theme. The format of the file name should be - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 | 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 (e.g. BLIS 1-1 | Dela Cruz, J.).
Designs will be judged on each criteria:

It has been 53 years since Ferdinand Marcos Sr. had declared Martial Law in 1972, a dark chapter in our nation's history. In the decades since, there have been countless measures to erase, distort, and rewrite this era in attempts to cover up the stories behind the thousands who were killed, tortured, and imprisoned for fighting against the dictatorship.

We must remain vigilant amidst rampant disinformation, especially during these present times where corruption and abuse of power persists within the very people in the government, obscuring the truth and twisting narratives in their favor. As information professionals, we hold the crucial responsibility of safeguarding the truths, evidence, and stories of what truly transpired in history.

As we reflect on the events of 53 years ago, we must not only remember the horrors of martial law but also renew our commitment to protect the truth. Let us honor those who fought against dictatorship by ensuring that their struggle is never forgotten.
