Happy Earth Day 2026!

We are officially back from the field! Sharing with you what we've been up to these past few weeks!!!

Project Kalaw aims to fill critical gaps in the ecology of the Northern Rufous Hornbill and drive local conservation actions through field surveys, habitat & threat assessments, and community engagement. Our work is in support of the evidence-based conservation action of hornbills and their habitats by the IUCN SSC Hornbill Specialist Group.

We are most thankful to The March Fund through the Conservation Leadership Programme for supporting our work.

Meet the Project Kalaw Team!

We are most thankful to The March Fund through the Conservation Leadership Programme for funding our research and conservation efforts on the Northern Rufous Hornbill in The Zambales Mountains KBA! ❤️

Project Kalaw aims to contribute to the limited hornbill knowledge in the Philippines, in order to guide conservation strategies that could be applied across the species' range. This is in support of the evidence-based conservation action of hornbills and their habitats by the IUCN Hornbill Specialist Group.

Project Kalaw Updates from Central Zambales Mountains!

Cradled in the heart of the Zambales Mountains, our team visited Palauig and Candelaria, two of seven sites. We were overwhelmed by the support of both the municipal and barangay local government units, that we can't wait to start our work! Send us lots of good luck! For the love of hornbills and the forests they call home ❤️

Project Kalaw Updates in the South!

Hundreds (or even thousands!) of hornbills once soared across the forests of southern Zambales Mountains—an awe-inspiring sight now left mostly to memory. During recent visits to our sites in Masinloc and Iba, team members Jhaynhell and Jayson were reminded of both the loss and the hope that remains. Though hornbills have grown rarer and their habitats increasingly fragmented, pockets of forest still stand resilient. We hold on to the hope that these remaining strongholds will continue to serve as safe havens—places where hornbills can endure, recover, and reclaim their skies.

We are most thankful to the barangay LGUs and the warm community members for embracing Project Kalaw.

Project Kalaw Updates!

We recently visited the northernmost section of the Zambales Mountains KBA in Sta. Cruz, Zambales Province, one of our seven sites in the range. Despite a severely fragmented habitat, hornbills continue to persist, giving us hope in creating a better habitat for Philippine hornbills! We are most grateful to the barangay LGU of Tubo-tubo North for welcoming us with open arms 🎉

Stay tuned for more updates!

We are CLP! 🇵🇭
