LOOK: 1 IN 5 FILIPINO FAMILIES GO HUNGRYโSWS SURVEY SHOWS ALARMING TREND
A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that 20% of Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger in the past three monthsโa rise from 19.1% earlier in April, but down from Marchโs 27.2%.
The latest poll, conducted April 23-28 among 1,500 respondents, found:
๐น 16.4% experienced moderate hunger (up from 15.2% earlier in April).
๐น 3.6% faced severe hunger (down from 3.9% earlier in April and 6.2% in March).
Hunger was most prevalent in Mindanao (26.3%), followed by Metro Manila (20.3%), Visayas (19.7%), and the rest of Luzon (17%). Poor families were hit hardest, with a 25.9% hunger rate, compared to 14.1% among non-poor households.
SWS defines moderate hunger as families who went hungry โonce or a few timesโ in three months, and severe hunger as โoften or always.โ
