LOOK: 1 IN 5 FILIPINO FAMILIES GO HUNGRYโ€”SWS SURVEY SHOWS ALARMING TREND

A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that 20% of Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger in the past three monthsโ€”a rise from 19.1% earlier in April, but down from Marchโ€™s 27.2%.

The latest poll, conducted April 23-28 among 1,500 respondents, found:
๐Ÿ”น 16.4% experienced moderate hunger (up from 15.2% earlier in April).
๐Ÿ”น 3.6% faced severe hunger (down from 3.9% earlier in April and 6.2% in March).

Hunger was most prevalent in Mindanao (26.3%), followed by Metro Manila (20.3%), Visayas (19.7%), and the rest of Luzon (17%). Poor families were hit hardest, with a 25.9% hunger rate, compared to 14.1% among non-poor households.

SWS defines moderate hunger as families who went hungry โ€œonce or a few timesโ€ in three months, and severe hunger as โ€œoften or always.โ€

As the local government of Calumpit in the province of Bulacan declared that they are now under the State of Calamity, it is in high time for us to show our love and concern for our fellow Filipinos who have suffered from flood due to high tide and Typhoon Egay.

They are in need of food packs, medicines and hygiene kits. AID PH is now accepting in-kind and cash donations for our upcoming relief operations in various low-lying barangays of Calumpit.
